Applebee's Grill + Bar — Restaurant in Blackman Charter Township

To start, Applebee's isn't the sort of place I have the highest expectations with to begin with, but we generally have a decent experience here. I don't mean that as a dig, I just mean I try to have realistic expectations of what is a lower end chain restaurant. On my previous visit, a lot of the food wasn't great. We gave it another try last night and it was just a terrible experience.

After getting waters it was ten minutes before we got to place a drink order, and the place was definitely pretty empty. Was annoyed to be told that a drink special advertised on the wall as not actually offered anymore. My food, aside from my soup, was all poorly made. The steak, ordered rare, was medium well if not further cooked. The onion rings were unseasoned, but the broccoli was overseasoned to the point of being inedible. 0 for 3.

On ordering my partner asked to upgrade one side to a soup. On our bill, we were charged full price for the soup and the dinner was marked as no second side. Additionally we were charged for two additional appetizers we never ordered. When brought to the server's attention they removed the two additional appetizers but said they couldn't correct the soup charge saying "it's just how they do it." That's ridiculous. I have never heard of a restaurant who would not upcharge a side to a soup, let alone a major chain. Further, if this were actually true, why wouldn't the server tell us when we were ordering? Don't take the order asking to upgrade the side and then later tell us it doesn't work that way. Further, even if that's truly the policy why would the server not tell us that doing so means you're getting no second side with the dinner for no reason? Any decent server would say we're paying for it and not getting anything so we may as well get something. Just unbelievably bad service.

First the good the manger was great when I told him my problem he was happy to help as well listen to my problem and the hostess was good as well but the waitress this older white lady with white hair was very rude to me and my grandmother I have a speech problem and she kept trying to over speak me as well as just not listening she was just rude this was my first time I have really been the one paying for a meal so I had my grandmother choose the tip and because of how rude she was I tipped a dollar and in response she got mad at me and yelled at me now in her defense it was not a full yell but still it was loud and rude she got mad at me due to the bad tip I explained why it was low due to her being rude over talking me not asking how my grandmother wanted her burger as well as not asking me what sauce I wanted so when i asked for barbecue she said ok and came back with ranch so I had to ounce again ask for barbecue she also was being piolete to other customers but only being rude to me and my grandmother and due to these reasons I left a dollar tip and in response she got mad at me and yelled at me and she waited to do this until my grandmother left after she yelled at me I was left shaking and because of this I spoke with the manager who was piolet and listen to me he even give me free appetizers Wich was something he was not required to do .I then give him money to please tip the hostess and busser but yes food was good but I couldn't finish it because how mean and rude the lady was but the food was good so yes thank you Mr manger please speak with the...

Went here with friends, waited 15 minutes before our server threw straws at our table and took off. Waited another 10 minutes before she finally came back and asked us about our drinks. She was very rude in her mannerism and anything she did say was short and snappy. She finally brought out our drinks and she did not even put the cherries on the Shirley temples. She completely avoided all of her tables other than the bigger group she had. She did not even bring out our food, the cook staff had to. She never checked on us once and we were done, but had to wait 20 minutes just to get her to come deliver the bills. She did not ask if we needed the bill split, she just threw the bill on our table and we had to stop her from taking off again so we could have our bills divided up how they should have been. She gave us our new bills and instead of taking our money and cards right away, she leaves and doesn't return for another 20 minutes as she stands around talking to other tables she was not even waiting on. It was blatantly obvious that she was treating us poorly because we were younger people and she did not expect us to tip. She paid attention only to the group of ten, which if the group had not been together it would have been no different than having them split into smaller table groups. This is the first time I have ever walked out of a restaurant without tipping.
