The food is good. Everyone is friendly, except the man who I think is one of the owners, can be so rude. For some reason he almost always ends up being our waiter, maybe it's the time we usually go. Though he can have times where he is nice, even during the same visit where he is rude. The woman who I think is his wife & one of the other owners, is always very nice. As far as his rudeness goes, it's easy to ignore/give someone the benefit of the doubt when it happens just once or twice, but after awhile when it keeps happening, it builds up & you wonder why you keep going back. The most simple requests over the course of many visits, have been met with huffiness & an annoyed air, to the point that I noticed I am afraid to need to ask for anything there, have found myself ridiculously apologetic for needing/wanting anything. The last time his rudeness was so over the top that it woke me up to how much rudeness I had been trying to excuse. We kept going back because of decent Thai food in a place where there aren't many other choices, the other people being friendly, and a view of the water. I think it is just his personality (he seems to be trying, but the effort of not showing his annoyance at people over little things, is just too much for him, and sometimes bursts of complete rudeness break through) & it kind of makes me sorry for any family or employees that might have to put up with a controlling nature that can constantly get upset over unreasonable things. I would not be surprised if they feel like they are walking on eggshells a lot, trying to make sure he doesn't get upset. (We tip well even when there are problems, & try to be polite, forgiving, conscientious customers, without a lot of demands, so I don't think it's a case of us being the problem.) Would hate to see their business not succeed, and hate leaving negative comments, but it might really help if they either left the job of being a server to other people, or he got some help improving interpersonal skills. My family & those who have been with us are unlikely to go back any more, even with all the good things going for it. Maybe this will be a chance for them to take some constructive criticism & improve. Would like to see places that are family businesses with good food, succeed. Not everyone is good with the public, and that's o.k. if they can recognize that and do other things that take advantage of their other strengths. Maybe they just need to have different staff dealing with most of...
Read moreOkay, okay. I've been noodling (pun intended) on this review, and was split between a 4 or 5 star review for Chada Thai. This could definitely be argued one way or another. After careful consideration and multiple deliberations guided by intense scrutiny (kidding, not kidding), we're going to land on a 5 star review.
Nestled next to the scenic shores of Blaine, Washington, Chada Thai continues to establish itself as an iconic and neighborhood favorite. It's going to take a really good restaurant to dethrone Chada's monarchy as a top Asian restaurant in Blaine.
The Pad Se Ew was incredibly moist, well decorated in an assortment of vegetables and had a delightful taste in each and every bite. It's one of those dishes that will keep you yearning for more -- bite after bite. I was a fan. A huge fan. The brown sauce--which tasted like a combination of dark soy sauce, sugar, oyster sauce and vinegar--was to die for.
The Pad Thai was also surprisingly good. Although a popular dish, this noodle dish can easily be overcooked, be way too sweet or commonly found cooked too dry. However, Chada Thai's version was nothing of the sort, but delish, leaving me craving for more after each bite. With each bite, you could tell how well the tamarind paste complimented the meat, egg, onions and bean sprouts.
A little feedback for the restaurant: Separate the bean sprouts and peanuts from the Pad Thai noodles Don't be too stingy on the green onions, which were pretty sparse on the Pad Thai
Recommendations for take-away: Add a scoop of Chili Garlic Sauce, Huy Fong (Rooster) to your plate to add a nice, authentic spicy kick to your meal. Sriarcha will do as well. Crack open and fry a few eggs to layer on top of your dishes for a nice, hearty addition of protein
Overall, I would recommend Chada Thai if you're looking for a delicious, authentic Thai meal. Did I mention they gave generous portions? It was definitely a good bang for your buck. The noodles also did surprisingly well as next...
Read moreI have a confession to make, I've lived in the Birch Bay/Blaine area for 10 years. I've driven past this place hundreds of times, and never once thought about stopping by. I love cooking for myself and friends, so I rarely eat out. A friend and I were running errands in Blaine, and my buddy suggested Chada Thai for Lunch. I haven't had Thai food for many years, so we decided to stop here for lunch.
We weren't disappointed. We ordered the pork fried rice, cashew pork, orange chicken, sticky rice, and combo appetizers. The fried rice was amazing. All of the vegetables were perfectly cooked. Not too soft, nor were they under-cooked. The orange chicken had a genuinely delicious orange flavor to the glaze. We even had a couple Thai Teas, which I've never had before. They were very rich and delicious, and very orange in color, not in flavor. I tasted a hint of vanilla, and something that I couldn't identify, perhaps cardamom? I really liked it, but it was a bit too sweet for my taste.
Everything was freshly cooked to order. The staff was friendly. The only down-side was that the restaurant was closed for indoor dining due to Covid restrictions, but thankfully was still open for take-out.
In conclusion, I would highly suggest stopping by Chada Thai if you are in the area. You won't be disappointed.
