I arrived on Monday, June 10th to join my friends for the puzzle event. They happen to be sitting at one of the taller tables with the bar stools. I am 5'2 270 lb and had knee replacement surgery. There was no way in hell that I was going to be able to get up on that chair. And even if I did I wouldn't be able to sit all the way back because of the way that the arms or the back, as it were, is created. There is metal tubing that would prevent my butt from being able to sit on the chair. All of the lower tables were taken and only a few tables had chairs with no arms or had a regular back. There were a few of the bar stools that didn't have a back on them at all that a few of the big-butted people were sitting on, however, again being 5'2 I could not get up onto those stools, especially without falling over or looking like an idiot. What a fatphobic business. Obviously you only want skinny beautiful people at your establishment.
I don't even drink beer but I wanted to be able to join my friends. Instead I left with 10 minutes of showing up because there was literally no place for me to sit. Thanks for nothing.
UPDATE: On Monday, August 12, my friend asked me again to come to the puzzle event. She told me that she had a low table and it had regular chairs. I didn't want to make the same mistake twice, so I questioned her about the back of the chair and the seat. She assured me that it was just a regular padded seat with a straight back. So I agreed to come. I wanted to thank you for the change in chairs. I would like to think that it was my review that made you think about the comfort of all customers, not just the skinny ones. I very much appreciated the chance to be part of the event.
I still can't comment on the food or drink because I didn't order anything. I don't drink beer and I don't drink and drive, so I couldn't try anything...
Read moreGreat concept, self serve tap house, lots of variety and a great atmosphere. Once you arrive you scan your credit card and get a scan card that you use to tally your tab so that at the end of the night you only have one lump sum tab. Service is seek serve, they have plenty of logo glasses, round and pint, so you can pour yourself a full glass of your choosing or a taste, you pay by the ounce and prices vary. I am not a beer drinker and I found plenty of choices that I was able to drink! They also serve pizzas and other snacks and you are allowed to bring outside food in! My recommendation for the establishment would be do have flight paddles that hold smaller 4oz glasses as I wanted to try everything and we felt bad dirtying 8-10 large glasses to sample beverages ranging from wine to ciders to beers (the staff did not mind at all that we went through that many glasses and they kept up on keeping the glasses cleaned and stocked!) I will have to say at the end of the time we spent there I was a bit stocker shocked at the price and being self serve the checkout device suggested you to tip as if it was full service. I do suppose the staff did know the choices and were able to steer me in the right direction of things to try, they did keep the glasses cleaned and stocked and they delivered the pizza which definitely deserves a tip for service. Overall great gathering place great atmosphere and variety. We are excited for this new place in our...
Read moreThis ordinarily would've been an outstanding experience were it not for the price. Fantastic selection of beers, but my wife and I spent $84 for just two of us (including tax/tip). Can't say how much beer we had because they have glasses of various sizes (so you can easily try something you're not sure about) and we weren't keeping real close track, but I would say roughly 3 pints each total. So do the math... that's $84/6 pints, or $14/pint!
Since it is a "self-pour" place, we were hoping not to have to tip, or tip minimally. But as others have said, they tried to hit us with a 20% gratuity on the bill (I did figure out how to leave less, and I did). Yes, they have a few employees in there (dishes, food, hostess), but come on, those people should not need tips. The establishment should pay them a fair wage, end of story. I worked in the restaurant business long ago, back in the kitchen. I never got a tip and didn't think anything of it. Nowadays no one is happy if they are not getting tipped.
The atmosphere is very nice, and the co-owner Jeremy spent lots of time talking with us. Very hospitable, and even gave me a small free sample of one beer. Overall, we would be back in a heartbeat if not for the price. There are a dozen other great bars in Blaine that have plenty of taps and where we can drink as much as we did here, but for $50...
