Extremely disappointed with our last visit. We went on Saturday, May 22nd for my daughters 7th birthday. We got on the waitlist and didn't go in until we got the text saying our table was ready. The hostesses were clearly overwhelmed. They were trying though and very friendly. We were seated at 7pm. We put in our drink orders. When all the drinks came out, my husband was missed. And proceeded to wait to put our orders in. 30 mins of just sitting around until our waitress decided to come back. We finally put them in along with 3 appetizers. I asked for a refill for me and one other. Those were the only refills we received. The rest of the party was never given any. I then ask for one more refill and was informed that my drink wasn't bottomless. I ordered a strawberry lemonade, which is listed as a bottomless drink. So I asked for water. We were given excuse after excuse. We didn't receive our appetizers until 8:15. We only received two of them. Still no drink refills. We finally asked for our food to just be boxed up at 8:30pm. The manager comes over because we're clearly unhappy. We got our drinks for free...and the appetizers. We didn't even want compensation. I just wanted decent service. The manager said "I'm not going to make any excuses, BUT we have a room of 50." Not once did they tell us any of this during the first hour of waiting. There were 7 adults and 4 kids (one was a 1 month old). The manager had us sitting around for 20 mins waiting for our food to boxed up and never offered us a drink or anything. Never saw the waitress again. We won't be returning. We went out of our way during the pandemic to support this restaurant with drive up meals. We never had bad food. There's so much more I could say but I'll end it here. When you're paying over $25 per plate along with appetizers, I would think service would be better. O and in the future, if you see a kid wearing a birthday crown, maybe wish them a happy birthday. That would go a long way with...
Read moreBeen to the Tavern before for Sunday brunch many times, it was slways good. However, our last dinner there on Sunday evening made me rethink The Tavern Grill as a place to go. We showed up there at 5 pm with six adults and two children, one of them needing a high chair. We asked for a table, not a booth, but the two hostesses told us all the tables were reserved, and they crammed us into a corner booth where they ended up having to stack two high chairs to get it up to the level of the elevated booth. Our waiter was excellent, great service, great personality, and just after he took our drink orders he asked us if we wouldn't prefer a table! We told him that was our original request. He told us to give him a minute and he would be right back. Two minutes later we were moving to two tables that had been pushed together to accommodate us. By the way, the place was pretty empty the whole time we were there. We ended up with a different server, so we went back and tipped our original server. The new server was... Different. After every menu choice someone made she would chirp out "Awesome!". Every single time. She did get the orders correct. Refilled our beverages once. The dinner items were lackluster. My daughter's ceaser salad came drenched in dressing, it was inedible. The dinners were served 2 and 3 at a time, with a couple of minutes between the different arrivals. The burgers 3 of us ordered were not cooked as ordered, and my peppercorn burger was so heavy with pepper it needed more than the two glasses of water I had in order to eat it. Nobody wanted to send anything back as we weren't sure of the wait time based on our first round. We had a gift card we were using, so we didn't feel like we wasted money, but the experience made us all realize that our days off dining at the Tavern...
Read moreI'm disappointed with the Tavern's reservation system (or lack of) that this is the straw that broke the camel's back - we are not planning to patronize this place again, after many years of eating here over the years. Here's what happened.....9 of us were going to come for brunch at 11:30 on 9/17. After looking at their website and Facebook, I find that the only reference to reservations is if you're a party of 20 or more. Anyone else just add yourself to the waitlist 30 minutes before you plan to arrive. Thinking I wanted more reassurance that a party of 9 didn't need a reservation, I called and left a message at the restaurant at 7am on 9/16. I never got a call back so assumed I could not make the reservation. So at 11am on 9/17 I added us to the waitlist, planning to arrive around 11:30. It specifically stated not to add to waitlist until 30 minutes prior to your desired time. As soon as I added to the waitlist, I received a call from the restaurant. I was advised that the wait would be at least 2 hours. So I asked what good does it do at 30 minutes prior, if you have to wait 2 hours? One could never "plan" to go there when desired. She said that for a party of 9 I should have called them. I told her I did, even though there's nothing saying I could/should do that. But never got a call back. Then she tells me I should have called during business hours. Really? Not this poor girl's fault (although she may need to be coached on the proper way to express empathy for my frustration over their processes/policies). But management needs to figure out a better way. I would have just given feedback to The Tavern on FB Messenger, but lo and behold they don't allow a...
