We ate this two nights in a row, mainly because we thought WE had messed it up the first night and wanted to give them a second chance. Both meals were bad. We really wanted this place to work out due to location, but I don't think I would ever order from here again after two bad experiences.
The second meal we ordered here was a repeat of our first (see below) Veggie Koorma and Butter Chicken - the flavors were ok, but the quality of the chicken was low, really tough and dry. The naan was hard in places, as if it had been reheated - in general, the main dishes and naan all seemed like they were reheated or of a particularly low quality. The mango lassi had a funk to it... The portions of the main dish were fairly small (but not unusual compared to other Indian places). The takeout packaging wasn't too great. On that meal alone I might have given them 2 or 3 stars.
The first meal we ordered the night prior was two main dishes, an appetizer, and two garlic naan. I asked the guy "How spicy is Mild?" He said "No spice in mild!" I said "ok, we'll go with medium for both." I order medium from everywhere - Indian, Thai, Chinese, Mexican - if they ask how hot I want it, usually medium is somewhere between "a little kick" and "WOW! that's got some heat".... However, this medium was literally inedible. Like scorching your mouth on fire super hot. And it wasn't a blended heat, it was just some sort of liquid heat addon poured into the dish without measurement. All you could taste was this screaming liquid heat. We tried and tried to eat more, huge spoonfuls of rice with tiny bites of the main dish, but we literally threw out 3/4 of the main dishes because of how insanely hot they were.
Again, we often eat "spicy foods" and order Medium without any issues anywhere... this food was inedible, as if the person adding the heat juice had zero regard for what they were doing. I've never thrown away food or asked it to be taken back due to spice levels in 25 years of frequently ordering Asian takeout...
I asked the guy at the counter the second day when I ordered our second takeout meal (all Mild this time), and he said yes, they do use a liquid heat additive. He also said "and if you add it to curry dishes, its much hotter, but things like the Koorma you got wouldn't be as noticeable because of the cream." I mentioned to him the meal the night prior that we ordered Medium, that we literally could not eat it. He just began smirking and looking down at the register. I asked him "do you guys get any complaints like that? was it maybe an off night?" and he just muttered under his breath and kept smirking. I said "I get it, I'm a white dude with a bland pallet but I just wanted to let you know, we fully threw the meal out AND were willing to try again just in case it was an error on our part!" He seemed to just keep smirking and shaking his head, acting like I was lying or mistaken I guess? I had already paid for the second dinner, I never asked for anything other than some clarity on how they heat stuff, but it's pretty clear based on our experience and lots of the other reviews that they don't really care or have any benchmark for heat levels. In general, both the guys who helped us at the counter were not very helpful, and in the second one's case, just outright dismissive of our concern.
The quality issues alone would have been enough to question trying them again, but coupled with rude service and total indifference to seasoning their dishes, I would never gamble...
Read moreAfter seeing them on social media, I wanted to give a try. However, while expecting to find a buffet and many other options, I found a place for carry out only.
There was an add on the window for lunch box for $9.99. The add was showing a samosa, chicken dish, veggie dish and rice pilaf. They said, I can choose one of the two option for chicken and veggie dish, but I am not getting samosa as advertised !
Still went ahead and tried the lunch box. it took about 15 mins to receive my order. The order came in a 3-section large tray with lots of rice, a little chicken tikka masala and a little chickpeas dish. The rice was dry and not impressive. It was just a commercial pilaf. The tikka masala was heavy with tomato taste, rather than chicken. Chickpeas dish was not impressive either. Their tastes were all average and just ok for lunch. Nothing impressive in the tastes. I do not think I received a good value for my money.
The store was clean and well organized. The service was professional too. But, I do not think I will go back. Instead I will try other places, especially the ones that are not chains...
Read moreMy family and I ordered takeout for dinner. The person taking my order was unfriendly and I was shocked to see the prices of the dishes were so costly. To make chicken tikka masala at home with premium organic ingredients, I spend $60 to feed a family of 5 over the course of a few meals. The half tray of chicken tikka masala cost $80 and the total bill of my meal was $189 for a half tray of chicken tikka masala, a half tray of chili chicken, and a few sides of naan. The chili chicken was extremely dry. The dish had a smoky flavor that felt charred. The chicken tikka masala tasted fine, but the texture of the chicken was so hard. For the amount of money I paid for this meal, I expected much better quality. I was highly disappointed in this restaurant and I feel misled by the positive reviews posted for this restaurant. I will not be giving noorjahan indian cuisine my business ever again and I will make sure to tell my fellow customers that this place is not worth...
