Mr. Lee,
Thank you for your response to my review. I have noticed that you do respond to most of your reviews so I had a feeling that you will reply to this one, and quickly. I did say in my review that the sushi rice is good, and I assume as long as the fish is fresh the sushi should be great. A large part of good sushi is the rice. But paying attention to higher price tag sushi items and ignoring the complimenting side maki pieces in the bento box is not fitting to your philosophy mentioned in your response. I saw that you avoided talking about the kitchen items, it is not about cooking style and authenticity. Dry is dry, no one wants dry meat. My family owed many restaurants in the past 50 years so I know how different restaurants run business so I won’t elaborate here. I also lived in Japan on and off for many years so I know sushi quite well. But I do thank you for your sincere invitation, unfortunately I wont be revisiting since I do no live in the area. If you look at my profile, overall I think I am a pretty fair critic. So if you do really care about your customers and true food critic feedbacks please pay more attention to the small details.
Original Review:
Stopped by for a quick lunch since our go to Thai places were all full. This is a typical Chinese or Korean own/operated joint, I cannot say much about the sushi since we didn’t order sushi except for the 2 piece of imitation crab meat maki in our bento boxes. The sushi rice is good but the cutting technic was horrible, all of the maki pieces were stuck together and when you pull them apart, naturally the nori comes off and the maki fell apart. This also means the maki was probably sitting in the cooler for a while otherwise the nori won’t be so wet and sticky. If any maki is served this way in Japan the restaurant will be closed in a week. So my review is about the kitchen items. One word, dry. Everything is dry, the pork, the chicken and the beef. Everything was pre-prepared, double cooked, double fried. The noodles and broth were OK. This is in no way Japanese food should be prepared (or any kind of food), but this is actually not surprising for this type of restaurant that serves a mixture of Japanese Korean and Chinese. Their strong suit could be the sushi according to other reviews but again how many people actually knows about true Japanese food. What ever this place lacks, it makes up by the decor and a ton of edamame in...
Read moreGreat food as they always been, but the service has somehow went down hill tremendously.
My wife and I had been going to Sushi Hana for a few years now and it has always been our favorite place for sushi, with exceptional service and recommended many friends over. Since my family is visiting us from Canada this week as we just had our newborn for two months, I told them that they should definitely go and try out Sushi Hana. Well, it turns out that it’s probably the worst recommendation ever.
When my family first arrived at the restaurant, the manager, Jean had been giving them attitude when they asked for high chair for my newborn and then decided that we don’t need it as we just going to have him on a car seat (since only 2 months old).
Then, when we told her that the 10-pieces nigiri assortment that we ordered only has 9 pieces, she showed a sense of distrust towards our accusation, went over to our table to count the nigiri, and not even an apology for the mistake.
As we know that they are closing at 3pm, so when we were almost done, she brought the bill at 2:35pm, this time we found another mistake on the bill (charged us dinner price instead of lunch; and again, not even an apology). We asked if we can clear the bill at 2:42, and when I asked when we need to be out of here, she said they're closing in 3mins at 2:45pm. I said the hours posted on the door says 3pm, and she insisted that it's been updated which is not true.
The whole experience with Jean as the manager this afternoon at Sushi Hana made my family felt unwelcome and rushed, that we had lost our appetite entirely regardless of how good the food that was served. I hope the owner will pay attention to my feedback here and bring it back to the service team, cause we love Sushi Hana. But if issue like this continues, I’m sure we will not be the only one that would stop coming to Sushi Hana...
Read moreI’ve been here twice now. Once for the lunch special and once for an early dinner on a Sunday. The food is excellent. The nigiri was fresh, had unique preparation and was served beautifully. The rolls were interesting and they have so many options that you’re bound to find something perfect for you.
My issue with this restaurant is in the service and atmosphere. The first time we went for an early dinner on a Sunday, we had our two young, but very well behaved, children in tow. Our 4 year old’s favorite food is nigiri, so we were excited to try a new place. When we walked in we were the only people in the restaurant and we were told we couldn’t sit in a booth even though there were 4 of us. We pushed and ended up sitting in a booth. We were given 1 menu for all of us and only 2 sets of chopsticks and napkins and they wouldn’t give my daughter a glass of water, so she drank out of mine. The server was unwelcoming and pretty much rude the whole time. While we were there, three other families with babies and young children showed up, so this strange service wasn’t because it’s not a place for kids.
Fast forward to when I went with my father 2 weeks ago for lunch and once again, we were the only patrons in the restaurant and told where we had to sit, given one menu and the server still was clearly not happy we were there and rushed us through the whole time, taking plates before we were done. It was also very cold both times and we all had to keep our coats on.
The food was very good and I would absolutely order takeout, but the dining in experience was just not good either time. especially when there are other sushi restaurants nearby that are welcoming to families and treat you like a customer should be treated, it’s just...
