GINZA IS BACK, even BETTER than before at their previous location at the Wintonbury strip mall.
The location is PERFECT and once you've experienced the new location and all it has to offer, like us, you'll realize it was essential to move from the former location. It's a HUGE revitalization and breathes new life into their genius.
We've gone twice already. Once for takeout (shrimp shumai and 2 sushi rolls). Shrimp shumai was even better than we remembered. For the roll, I wasn't quite sure how I felt about the cucumber still having the the outer skin on it and being part of the roll. One of us liked it the other was not yet sure. The service was excellent when we went to order for takeout. They said 10 minutes and it was ready in a little less. Completely reasonably priced for 2 rolls and an appetizer.
Also went again 2 days ago in the evening after 7. Once again, ambiance, service and food were exceptional. We had the seasoned edamame (which you'd think other places could do well BUT DON'T!, only Ginza does!), the pumpkin appetizer (that were like donuts, as well as the fried gyoza. For the latter, there wasnt enough sauce, but we made do. For our main course, one of us had the eggplant stir fry with vegetable fried rice. The eggplant was ASTONISHING. A little crispy on the outside and perfect on the inside. The rice was a little bland, but coupled with the eggplant paired well. The others in the party had sushi and there were many happy sounds of 'Mmmmm' as though we'd been reunited with a good friend who'd gone away for a little while. Note: they no longer have the hibachi areas (which were no great loss for us. They do still have hibachi on the menu though.)
Their private room is sizeable and very inviting. It may be able to hold at least 20 people or more. Added pics I took of the establishment. The bar area is STELLAR and a HUGE upgrade from the former location. All in all a classy dining experience with THE BEST SUSHI, ever! ...
Read moreI live and work near to this Ginza so I stop in now and then. Not much in terms of the decor has changed. Odd choice of music was playing. Not music that makes me feel Zen. I ordered salmon spicy roll and tuna spicy roll. First, quality of the fish was low. Next, the sushi roll chef doesn't understand the proper amount of rice. A tiny thin layer was used. This isn't a one off issue. Basically, the Ginza Group is looking to cut corners to save money. Worse, they used the wrong type of rice for their rolls. Again, cheap rice. For most patrons, they will assume nothing wrong. But for those that understand sushi, you had better to go to a Japanese resturant with Japanese chef. No Japanese chef would serve sushi the way they do at Ginza, Bloomfield and Wethersfield. You might be wondering... how does this guy know so much? I lived in Japan for 14 years, my wife us Japanese, and she is a former sushi chef herself! I'm not expecting Tokyo Ginza level sushi, but I am expecting better from Ginza chain. Sadly, Murasaki, with their Japanese owner, has retired. There's still Toshi's in Avon. Otherwise, for real sushi, you'll need to head to New Haven or nearer to NY. Also try Wanokura in Milford, MA.
Summary: If you want real sushi, go elsewhere. If you want cheaply made sushi, this...
Read moreMy friend and I came in around 9 to dine in, wasn’t greeted only asked how many. Our waiter; mediocre, rushed us to order, seemed irritated, & annoyed. We order apps and after ordered food; the food was the only good part about this experience. Once we finished splitting our entree my friend wanted to order sushi and the waiter gave a cold gesture like we were bothering him. When you offer good service you get a tip. I wasn’t offered good service so I didn’t feel the need to tip. When my friend and I were leaving the restaurant the manager “ Johnathan W” stopped us and rudely asked with an attitude how was service but it was more of an rhetorical question he cut us off while we were explaining and said “ my guys have been working all day” & “when you open you own establishment we’ll see” in all reality this isn’t my problem; you as a manager own a establishment making enough money to hiring people so you don’t have them working morning till night so they can offer a welcoming service but you don’t and that’s your issue. As a manager he acted poorly and set a bad example to his employees which shows in there service, and that’s why they...
