Moe's Southwest Grill — Restaurant in Bloomington

I travel from Chicago to St Louis frequently and stop in BN often for food. This fast casual place off an I-55 exit used to be a boring-but-ok (in a hurry) alternative to Chipotle. Not anymore. I stopped with my kids, so we experienced the horror of three meals here at once.

The problems made me question sanitary practices…Unfriendly and dreary staff from start to finish. Most sides/condiments were gone or way past their prime on a mildly busy Monday. The place was a mess, can’t imagine the kitchen. Overflowing trash, universally sticky floors, salsa bar a wreck. We ate outside to get away from it.

All three of us had burritos. All three tortillas were carelessly thrown on the grill together (one was visibly split in half at the onset), so they were too gummy. Careless.

The quality of the food - meat, lettuce, and especially salsa was visibly bad. Clearly most products are frozen and thawed. It shows, and you can taste the lack of freshness along with the pervasive blandness. The salsas, a former highlight, tasted awful. I could have done far better grabbing a jar of cheap salsa at a gas station. Maybe they were just stale and unservable like everything else?

Worst offense (and easiest to identify for staff!): Stale chips to the point of being inedible. Still had a bad taste in my mouth 2 hours later. Kids wouldn’t eat them! They were also out of tomatillo salsa. No problem, I can ask for more. “We’re out.” I respond: “Can I have some from the burrito line?”. “No, those are take-out.”

Do yourself a favor. Skip this fast food purgatory and hit up Chipotle or a local spot. You can’t possibly do worse...

Our catered meal was delivered to the wrong location. We went to pick up a new order. The manager refused to acknowledge us or speak to us. When he did speak to us he was abrasive and unkind. He just walked straight into the back without stating what he was doing. He returned about 5-10 minutes later and tossed a box of food on the counter. The box hit the counter with enough force to cause the salsa to open and explode inside the box. After tossing the box on the counter, the manager Abel proceeded to walk away without saying anything. We attempted to get Abel’s attention again to inquire about the incident. Abel again was aggressive and unprofessional making a comment “you wanted your food right?”. However it was unclear what he was doing as he had not communicated with us at all. We never raised our voices, were abrasive, nor were we rude. He brought back over another tray and walked away. We were unsure if that was all, again as he was not communicating with us. We attempted to communicate with Abel one last time about the incident and what we should do. He provided us with a half answer and told us to call the owner and he would call us back and walked away again. There was no customer service nor an apology. However, a customer in line did apologize to us for what we experience. His behavior was unbecoming for a manager. This was my first experience with Moes. But I will not be returning if that is the level of service to be expected after such an expensive order. So i worked at a moes for over a year and on my break for the job i have now i Walked in nobody said a word just looked up and rolled there eyes, took me 10 minutes to get my food and there was only 1 person in front of me. Put on twice the amount of queso cheese and lettuce but i only got... and i counted 8 chips so now they're wasting product and not giving out what theres excess of. The bigger white girl with the brown hair, natalie or something like that was just being rude and making faces even while im saying please for this or no thank you for that, then she forgets to put on the cheese for a stack and when i said something she brought it back over slammed it down broke the shell threw cheese on top and slammed it back on the grill when i was nothing but polite. Worst customer service i have ever had only reason it gets a star is because the foods good. Fire that girl if she hates her job so much then she should just quit no need to try and ruin...
