Las Fajitas is a Tex/Mex (not traditional Mexican) restraint. If you arrive early, before 5:00pm you will have no wait, after the restaurant starts the fill quickly. It seems that by 7:00 there is a wait, though not usually more than 20 minutes. As in the case of this establishment, Iâve never been to a TexMex that was really good unless it appeared to be a n out of the ordanary location, not very fancy looking, average decore. This is a description of Las Fajitas, but donât let it fool you, it fills night after night, all year round for a reason, the food is excellent.
The meal starts when a table staff comes with a basket of chips, two if you have a large party and traditional texmex salsa with cilantro of mild heat. If you would like to amp up the heat ask for the caliente sauce, this appears to be fresh purĂ©e jalapeños. I usually mix some of this with the regular salsa to add a bit more heat. There is a strange rule, you are not allowed to have more than two sauce dishes at a time with your party. Iâm sure if you push a bit they see the light, itâs not worth loosing customers to a lightly issued rule, taken as gospel.
My favorite is the pulled steak, red sauce burrito. Though Iâve tasted the enchiladas and they are excellent. Iâve also had he quesdias, which again are very good. The retried beans are fresh, no sour fermented taste, though somethings, I guess due to the chief it sometimes has a slight smoked taste.
Why then did they lack five stars, the service is often erradict. Iâve had great waitresses, and others who seemed burned out. Then there are ones who speak no English, and it appears they are ignoring you, I guess it gets old telling gringos , no speak English. It aparears to be a family owned establishment, with a majority of the staff being Mexican American, but itâs owned now at least by a gringo. There is on male waiter who is wonderful in charm and service, heâs also been there 15 years, as long as Iâve been going. Itâs also at times busy enough, and not enough staff, itâs easier to go get what you need yourself, or make it very known you need service, such as going to the bar, remembering your waitstaffâs name, getting up and grabbing your own roll of silverware if needed.
While Iâve leaned into the staff a bit, itâs really not horrible, it could be better. This is not an inexpensive Mexican food establishment, the tips therefore should be used accordingly. The average meal for two, a margarita for one, a selection of imported, excellent beers, and a shot with the meal boosts the price, so if you stick to ice-tea, you can get away with a 35.00 bill before tip. This is a well worth texmex restaurant overall, the best in this area...
Read moreMy son and I had dinner at Las Fajitas. He is 11 years old and wanted to order two tacos just ground beef and cheese. I wanted a cheese enchilada with lettuce, tomato and guacamole on the side. So the cheese enchilada would have been $11 because they make you order a plate with rice and beans, which I would not eat. The guac would have been $595 because they cannot bring you a side you have to order the appetizer which is probably a huge amount. And the waitress said it would be $2 each for tomatoes and lettuce. So if I do the math right it would be $20.95 for a cheese enchilada. So I ordered the fish taco plate:-( for $11. We had to chase down one of the 5 servers standing around by the bar, to even order and the place was half empty. When the food arrived my son had a side of cheesy potatoes and rice and beans. He took one bite of the taco which had a shell that was without flavor and rubbery. He would not eat another bite and he loves tacos. I then tried to eat my fish tacos and I could confirm how discusting the shell was and the fish was really fishy and I could not finish even one taco. I then had to track down the waitress again to get our check and get out of there. When the waitress came she asked if we were finished..... seeing all of the meal still on the plate. Didn't ask if anything was wrong, nothing. I am a fellow restaurant owner and I have never written a review in my life, but I felt compelled to do so this time because our experience was terrible. The service, food, prices and the way you cannot get a taco, or enchilada ala carte is rediculous. My plate had 3 fish tacos, nachos with spinach and cheese(which were the best thing on the plate), rice and beans. Who eats that much food? We just wanted a couple of "good tacos" and couldn't get them at this restaurant. Should have made the drive to El Camino. Best of luck, we...
Read moreMostly bland "Americanized" under-seasoned food. It started off good with nice chips and salsa and very tasty spinach tostadas. It went downhill from there.
I have to agree with the woman on WPBTs "Check Please" episode describing some of the food at this restaurant. She called a couple entree "chronically under seasoned" and my chicken mole verde was certainly that. Mole sauces, whether the dark kind (with a hint of Mexican chocolate) or the green verde type, are supposed to have rich, complex flavors but mine had little flavor at all. It was placed over a chicken burrito with a rather thick flour tortilla wrapped around plain chicken. I asked for more sauce but that did not help.
The side rice and refried beans were also very bland.
I tried this place a number of years ago and had the chicken burrito with tomatillo sauce. i remember the same thing - not enough flavor. This place is owned and operated by Mexicans and I believe they are capable of making true Mexican food with proper flavoring. Perhaps they are trying to meet expectations of their local audience, who seem to like this place a lot. But as a fan or real Mexican food, which I can also make to a fairly high degree of efficiency, I have to say this is not the real deal but rather another in a long list of bland, Americanized Mexican restaurants.
I should mention the service was very friendly and attentive, and the margaritas quite good.
For a much more authentic Mexican food experience I suggest El Camino in Delray Beach, Casa Maya in Deerfield Beach or, to a lesser extent, Senor Burrito nearby...
