In a year marked by absence and unexpected intimacy, my mother and I found ourselves sharing Thanksgiving dinner at Mia Rosebud—a restaurant that became our unexpected sanctuary on a day typically reserved for large family gatherings. With our usual holiday traditions disrupted, we stepped into a half-empty dining room, greeted by the saving grace of our server, Ramero.
My mother, a culinary perfectionist and an avid storyteller, can be a challenging dining companion. Her exacting standards and love for holding court are legendary in our family. Yet on this day, Ramero demonstrated a masterful understanding of hospitality that transformed what could have been a difficult meal into a surprisingly bearable experience.
Let's be frank about the food: it was disappointingly pedestrian. The turkey arrived decidedly bland—a cardinal sin on Thanksgiving. The cranberry sauce emerged as the unexpected hero of the plate, while the marshmallow-topped sweet potatoes were an unmitigated disaster. In retrospect, we would have been better served by selecting items from the à la carte menu and sticking to the Italian specialties Mia Rosebud presumably does well.
But the meal was never truly about the food. It was about connection. Ramero intuitively understood my mother's need to be heard, asking precisely the right questions to unleash her storytelling prowess. His patience was remarkable, standing attentively as she regaled him with tales that seemed to stretch into eternity.
What began as a potentially melancholic holiday evolved into a moment of unexpected warmth. For that, we owe a debt of gratitude to Ramero, who transformed a potentially awkward family dinner into a memory we'll both cherish.
Thank you, Mia Rosebud, for providing a backdrop to our unconventional...
Read moreTwo days ago, I had one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever encountered at Mia Rosebuds. Right from the start, I should have known this place was a mistake. The atmosphere was stiff, and the staff—from the waiters to the bartenders to the manager—carried themselves with a ridiculous sense of superiority, as if they were doing everyone a favor by letting us dine there. First, the food. Absolutely disgusting and ridiculously overpriced. I ordered a steak, which was tough and flavorless, accompanied by vegetables that tasted like they were reheated straight out of a microwave. It’s honestly a shame that they even consider themselves a fine dining establishment. My friend ordered a pasta dish, and it was just as terrible—undercooked, bland, and swimming in an oily sauce that tasted like nothing but grease. The service was just as bad, if not worse. Our waiter acted like we were an inconvenience to him, barely checked on us, and rolled his eyes when we asked simple questions about the menu. The bartender was no better, acting arrogant as if his overpriced, poorly mixed cocktails were the best in town. Even the manager seemed to think he was above the rest of us, walking around with an air of self-importance while ignoring multiple tables, including ours. To top it all off, I saw the owner outside, actually yelling at the valet staff. It was unprofessional and downright embarrassing for a restaurant that’s trying so hard to be exclusive. If they think this attitude and lack of basic hospitality will bring people back, they’re sorely mistaken. Overall, this place was an absolute disaster from start to finish. Save your money and go somewhere else where the food is edible and the staff actually treats you like a...
Read moreAfter recently being at an Elite Yelp event here at MIA Rosebud, I arranged for our longtime friends- 3 couples- to enjoy a wonderful dinner here on this September, Friday evening. We first were greeted with COMPLIMENTARY valet parking ( this is new) and then at the reception desk we checked in and were able to have a fabulous round table way in the rear which was the best location for us to talk and hear each other. They had live music which was terrific but too loud if we sat anywhere else. They do have outside seating but we were told that it was reserved for other events. Bri was our outstanding waitress. She attended to all requests and made sure our orders were totally correct as well as periodically coming by to see if we were ok. I ordered from the special flavor menu which is a 3 course menu for $59. I had the Gorgonzola salad , Bronzino over broccolini and the cheesecake. Everyone else ordered from the regular menu having ribeye cowboy steak, linguini with clams, brick chicken and ORECCHIETTE SAUSAGE & BROCCOLINI. The couple that had the cowboy steak said it was much better than the one they ate at Capital Grille, which happens to be a fabulous restaurant as well. My friends were so grateful to be introduced to Mia Rosebud and couldn't thank me enough for arranging it. We all paid through the InKind app which saved us all 20% and one couple received a $25 coupon in the mail which they were able to...
