Summary: Overall, Sonny's was ok. The atmosphere is nice and the service was good. The salmon crepe was fantastic and the drinks were good but this is a breakfast place and you have to get the eggs right. This is where Sonny's completely fell down, the poached eggs in my benedict were basically hardboiled (picture included). The clam chowder was very grainy (picture included), like the cream had curdled. The restaurant is new and the other items were good enough that we will try them again.
Full Details: This is a promising new all day breakfast restaurant in Boerne. This was our first trip to Sonny's. We definitely liked what they have done with the place. It has a nice bright atmosphere with great outdoor seating, a nice indoor dining room and an upstairs dining room. We chose to sit upstairs, it is a small area with a few table and overall a nice dining area. The service was good.
While the atmosphere is important, it's the food that will make or break a place. For us, this was a mixed bag which is why I am rating the food as 3 stars.
We tried three drinks, the Citrus Got Real, Strawberry Solstice and a sparkling Rose. The Rose was good, the Citrus Got Real was a wonderful - reminded me of an orange creamsicle. The Strawberry Solstice was ok, the flavors didn't blend well and it was too sweet, not something I would order again.
For food, we ordered the clam chowder, birria benny and the holy smokes crepe. The salmon crepe was delicious, my wife loved it. I would go back for that. The potatoes are crispy and well seasoned. I would recommend trying the siracha dipping sauce for them, nice heat and it goes well with the potatoes.
Now for the not so good. The clam chowder was pretty flavorful but the texture was very grainy. It tasted like the chowder had been left on the heat long enough to curdle the cream. I love a good clam chowder but I would not order this again. I am including a picture of the chowder, if you look closely you can see the grainy texture.
Now for the Bad. This is a breakfast place and the one thing you have to get right is the eggs. I absolutely love eggs benedict and will order it the first time I go to a breakfast restaurant as a way to benchmark the flavors and cooking. The birria was good and hollandaise was very good. The one thing you have to have with an eggs benedict is a well poached, runny egg. Both of my eggs were nearly hard boiled. I am including pictures of the eggs so you can see how overcooked they were. Literally no liquid yolk at all.
Overall, Sonny's was ok. The crepe was fantastic and the drinks were decent but this is a breakfast place and you have to get the eggs right. This is where Sonny's completely fell down. The restaurant is new and the other items were good enough that we will probably try them again. If you are in the area, you might want to...
Read moreMy family, 3 adults and 4 children arrived on Tuesday 8/12 at approximately 1:55pm. We asked to sit inside, due to the heat, and were told by the hostess that they only had 4 and 2 top tables inside and the one big table they had would be at least an hour wait. She said we could only sit outside, because it was not possible for bigger parties to sit inside. I asked if we could at least sit where there were misters, fans and shaded. She said it would be 5-10 minutes for them to clear a table. We then asked if we could sit inside by pushing two 4 top tables together or at least sit next to each other. We were told both suggestions were not possible, so we opted to wait. Apparently there was only one person to bus tables and no one else was capable of helping to get the table ready. We waited almost 20 minutes while several workers were standing at the hostess station and a couple were sitting and talking to other customers. There were only 3 tables in use outside and instead of seating us outside under the misters by pushing two tables together or allowing us to sit next to each other, we had to wait for them to clear the one table big enough to sit 7 people, which was barely next to a set of 3 misters and not near a fan or in the shade. When we were finally seated, Renee our server was great. Although we asked for kids cups with lids for our 4 and 7 year old 3 times, we finally stopped asking after being told they would bring them. The people who helped bring the food appeared to be irritated that they had to help. I’m sure this could be a great place if you came with no more than 4 people, but many of the staff seemed to be very disinterested in being there or helping to look for alternative solutions for bigger parties. Renee did finally offer to move inside due to my younger kids getting overheated, but at that point we were just ready to take our food and leave. More misters and fans for patio seating would make the experience more comfortable. Spending over $200 for brunch was not worth feeling like we were an inconvenience to the staff at this restaurant. Would definitely not recommend for more...
Read moreA Truly Delightful Brunch Experience at Sunny's All Day Brunch Bar! ——- My family and I had an absolutely fantastic time at Sunny's All Day Brunch Bar! From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was wonderful. We were lucky enough to snag a spot on the beautiful outdoor seating area, which was the perfect setting for our meal. The entire staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, but one person, in particular, made our visit truly special. Our server, Sarah, was an absolute superstar. We found out she was working a double shift, but you'd never know it. She was so cheerful, attentive, and genuinely delightful. Her recommendations were spot-on, and she made sure we felt completely taken care of throughout our meal. Her excellent service really elevated our whole experience. The food was out of this world. I'm still dreaming about my Honeymoon Crepe. The flavors were a perfect combination of sweet and savory, and it was cooked to perfection. My wife ordered the Sweetheart Crepe, and she couldn't stop raving about it. My son, who is a very picky eater, devoured his Creme de la Creme Crepe and even asked if we could come back again tomorrow! To top it all off, the coffee selection is outstanding. I loved my Nuts About You coffee, which had the perfect balance of nutty flavor without being too sweet. My wife was equally impressed with her Green With Envy coffee. Sunny's has definitely mastered the art of both food and drinks. We can't recommend Sunny's All Day Brunch Bar enough. We're already planning our next visit! Be sure to...
