Quaint and quiet during the day and more festive at night, this is a very cozy and friendly place with a view of the river directly across from the pub (if you love natural scenery then this will definitely be a place you'd enjoy).
During the daytime it's very quiet (excluding the nature sounds and gentle bustle of the town) and pretty relaxed. It's vibrant, cozy and feels like a quaint home with the style of the decor and lots of open windows to let in natural airflow and light. Night time is a lot more active with warm lighting and activity about. Although still not loud, it does feel more like a pub during the night hours where you'll often see groups of people enjoying their time out and a few colorful lights to liven up and transform the space but still keeping it very casual. Despite it's rustic charm it's no mistake that the establishment is kept clean and all items remained spotless and orderly for every table.
Having eaten here only once the food is very good and has nice portions so you don't feel stuffed but are still satisfied. When we went, we had the burgers which were good. The portabella mushroom burger was great (if you're a fan of mushrooms I highly recommend) and has an amazing grilled flavor that really enhanced the mushroom alongside the texture being great and was easy to eat. The fries were also seasoned nicely and diverse amount of sauces were offered to choose from whether for dipping or using to top on your burger (I decided to do both and it adds a nice touch combining all 3 together). The "brewhaus" and "the big duck" also seem to be recommended favorites although they are very large and can get filling fast so it may be an idea to bring your appetite with you or share with others! Although not a drinker myself, they also have quite a few options to choose from of various on tap brews that many love so feel free to give them a try anytime you drop by. For those who prefer non - alc beverages, I highly recommend the flavored sweet iced teas. They aren't too sweet nor are they bitter; the perfect balance!
Despite each staff member hosting their own energy from more reserved to extroverted and bubbly, they were kind, greeted us openly and were very attentive. It seems that they like to take on an approach that feels very familial as if you're visiting over at someone's house yet still respectful and professional as to not take away from it being a dining establishment but there is a good balance that's always maintained throughout! The customers even adopt a similar behavior so it isn't difficult being able to strike up a light conversation with others and possibly make new companions along the way.
I find it a nice place to go when you still want a space with some energy but isn't too overwhelming or fast paced, sort of like a mini getaway. I especially like how cordial everyone was with one another and the kindness they showed during my first visit. It's definitely worth a return! Note: If you happen to run across a lady named Grace know that she is a joy to chat with and really carries of light of happiness and vibrancy with her; a true life of the party any time of the day to...

The only thing worth giving this restaurant a single star for is how nicely cooked the wursts were. Which, sadly, were only decent in flavor and very bland compared to wursts I had in Germany, and even other states with German concentrations. The bratwurst that was advertised as spicy didn't even have a sliver of spice or some sort of pepper in it. It was the flattest pork sausage I ever had. The sauerkraut was insanely chockful of coriander and dill. I tasted more dill than sauerkraut! Even my ex's sauerkraut recipe was better than Dodging Duck's. To add insult to injury, the giant pretzel was not at all large. In fact, it was overbaked to the point of being nearly solid instead of chewable (Mein Gott!). I waited 35 minutes for a table, led by an incomprehensible tag team of youngsters to the table who had no idea how to ask where we would like to eat, then almost an HOUR for the food, only to be given this sad excuse of German food? I almost didn't want my fiance to tip the waiting staff. Speaking of waiting staff-- whoever the high school kid was, this one blond hair blue eyed waiter about 6' tall f-d up bigtime. He took away food I had asked for a takeout box for, gave me the WRONG sized box, and did not even bother to apologize for the mistake. What the hell was he thinking??? He did not listen to me and he was very rude! That was the cherry to the sundae of problems. It was at that point that I had to give this restaurant, despite the high hopes I had for it in the higher reviews, this very low rating. In a more colloquial sense, this is one of Boerne's most overrated restaurants. One does not simply mess up bratwurst, pretzel, and sauerkraut. It's one of the most basic dishes they could make. I would not trust their other dishes, as a result.
By the way, the total for one Philly Cheesesteak and two Hill Country Sausages was somehow $40+....
Read moreAug 6, 2020 (Thursday about 5 pm). I have eaten here before, I like the place and would recommend it. I do, however, have a few comments about this specific visit. My wife and I both had the fish and chips - I had tea and she had coffee. Total bill was about $40. It was a warm day and my wife and I are both older people. I asked to be seated inside and the hostess checked, but we were told it was all reserved - so we sat outside which was sparsely occupied. During our meal, I went inside to the men's room and there were only a couple of tables occupied. When we left, I looked inside and there were still only a few table occupied. Not sure what that was all about. We had the fish and chips - the fish were very good and each plate contained 3 or 4 pieces of fish. The chips looked like frozen fries and were not very tasty. Making more authentic European fries would have been nice and added quite a bit to the presentation. I enjoyed my fish and ate the entire order (which was a lot). Maybe I should have saved a bit as I had some trouble digesting my dinner. The fish and fries were both (obviously) fried and my wife and I are unaccustomed to eating much fried food. So my comment about having trouble digesting the food would only apply to those, like us, who eat very little fried food. The service was fine. Here is a picture about halfway through the meal. Again, I like the place and would...
