I stopped by on opening day with my kids to grab some lunch. The service was a little slow, but we were also the third customers on their first day open to the public, so I’ll give them quite a bit of leeway on speed. The staff was kind, and we ordered a few different items to try - spam musubi, tuna mayo onigiri, pork belly adobo onigiri, pork katsu sandwich, and ube crinkle cookie. They threw in 20 free lumpia for being one of the first 20 customers, too.
My 3 1/2 year-old daughter is a somewhat picky eater, always has been. Even so, she absolutely devoured multiple pieces of lumpia, part of the pork belly onigiri, part of the pork katsu sandwich, and the ube cookie.
The tuna mayo onigiri was fine (it’s pretty basic from an ingredient standpoint so it was about what I expected) but the pork adobo is what really stood out to me. Flavorful, tender pork, a good amount of rice. The spam musubi was also a hit for me. The pork cutlet in the sandwich was deliciously crispy, and the katsu sauce had some nice depth of flavor. I managed to sneak a bite of the ube cookie when my daughter wasn’t looking, too, and it was a great way to end the meal. Not too rich, very soft, and enough ube flavor coming through.
I’m very much looking forward to trying the other menu items at this place, and hope they do well and succeed because my daughter might have some new...
Read moreI was very excited when I heard about this place opening! The prices are great and there was no line on a Sunday afternoon. I tried the brown sugar bubble tea - the tea was yummy but the boba wasn’t cooked all the way through. The spam musubi was tasty, the tuna mayo onigiri had more filling than I’ve ever seen in an onigiri! Very good though I wish they were packaged to keep the nori separate and crunchy. The egg sando was delicious. The coconut mochi was just kind of sludge? I wasn’t sure how to eat it, it didn’t solidify and was just mush in the packaging. It did taste great though. Overall it’s very affordable to try some new things and I look forward to trying more of the menu! I assume they’re having some hiccups since they just opened.
EDIT; I just have this place another try after a few months. I was really hoping for improvements. The tuna mayo onigiri was fine; not a ton of filling, and could use some more mayo, but it wasn’t bad at all. But the bubble tea remains frustrating! The pearls were in all different stages of cooked. Some were perfect, many were way too chewy, and several were straight up hard. How does that even happen? I want so badly for this place to be great, but it...
Read moreI was intrigued by the concept, so I gave it a try today, mainly cause I saw they had musubis. I got lumpia, musubi, tuna mayo and pork belly onigiri, a coconut bubble tea, and an ube cookie. My favs were the musubi and lumpia. The musubi was thick and flavorful, and the lumpia was flaky and crispy. The coconut bubble tea was also good, and the tapioca pearls were chewy. The ube cookie was just the right amount of sweet as a dessert. I wasn't a fan of the pork belly onigiri as it felt dry, and the flavor wasn't it for me. The tuna mayo onigiri needed more flavor. It hardly had mayo and only a bit of tuna as filling. Overall, I will definitely visit again. I placed my order online and picked it up via their drive thru. I am just glad there's something new for my lunch breaks. FYI: they had a sign posted that said they are now closed...
