My husband and I visited Komoon for the first time Saturday evening with 2 friends who had recommended this restaurant. There were about 6 other tables / groups of people when my husband and I arrived at 7:23 pm. Our friends arrived slightly earlier and had already gotten a booth for us.
The menu is extensive and has a lot of variety. When the first server took our order, we asked for a separate check for me and husband - both couples would pay separately.
I ordered green tea, miso soup, and chirashi. My husband ordered green tea, Coke with no ice, veggie roll with soy paper, and steak a la plancha. Our friend ordered green tea, curried duck, and appetizers of tuna tataki and naruto roll. Our friend's girlfriend ordered coconut sake and a Viper roll.
The appetizers arrived at 8:24pm, but the wait for the main dishes felt extremely long as they arrived about 20 minutes later at 8:41pm. This means that from when we got there to when we ate the main dishes, we waited about 1 hour and 20 minutes. This was unusual since most of the other customers already left by the time we received our food...
Anyway, the food itself was overall good. Minor details that could be improved: leaner NY strip steak without ligaments (we're from the northeast so we know what real strip steak quality is like and this was not it), octopus (tako) from the chirashi could be cut thinner for less rubberiness, drink order should be the correct amount as we received an extra order of Coke (that we paid for) but did not ask for. e're not in the habit of sending food or drinks back, so we just went with it.
To prevent this type of confusion, we recommend having 1 waitstaff assigned to a table instead of 3 servers that were taking our orders during our visit OR have a shared ordering system that shows the specific orders for each check. This caused the last server to separate the check AGAIN, which took another 5 or so minutes asking who ordered what. I'm just glad we all remembered our orders, and it was easy, though it felt like double work (for us) that we were paying them for. This issue is why they lost 2 stars from their service, though everything else was 5 stars.
As a side note, I did not use the restroom, but I was told by my husband that the men's room sink faucet was broken, so men were supposed to use "other one" according to the sign, but there was no other faucet except the women's restroom. There was also a bunch of Bruno Mars playing during our entire dinner, maybe someone is a fan? 🤷♀️
Other important and notable aspects about this restaurant: the place is relatively clean, booths are not sticky or greasy-feeling, menus are clean, and the raw food is fresh enough. I'd return here for the rolls, but not for the...
Read moreI do not like leaving poor reviews but unfortunately this establishment deserves it. First, the restaurant was empty when we arrived and then two more tables filled as we were looking through the menus. Not sure why there needs to be three menus; the fourth was the drink menu, which makes sense. But too many menus. Second, the server presented us with the cocktail menu which we ordered from, but then comes back to say he cannot offer cocktails because he does not know how to make cocktails????? So I asked for plain cold sake and he brings out literally six bottles, places them on the table, then asks which one i would like. No prices but I asked and picked one. Unfortunately my wife never ended up having an adult beverage with her dinner. We gave our order and 45 minutes later our food finally comes out. There are still only three tables filled at this time, which included ours. The only positive comment about this restaurant was that the food was decent. Not great, but decent. The ambience was also nice. The light fixtures were neat. The service, especially when “empty”, should not have been that slow. Also, do not have a cocktail menu, or do not present them, if you cannot make them. I watched another server say the same thing to another table. Maybe the bartender called out sick, who knows but our experience was awful. Better off trying another place. To the owner of the restaurant, something about the way the restaurant operates seems “off”. I would suggest dining at your own restaurant without your staff knowing it’s you and see for yourself how well...
Read moreWent with my two kids on the way back from the beach on Valentine's day. I have been with my family at the one on the corner of Immokalee road and Goodlette-Frank in the past and service was excellent and for was good. Expected the same experience at this one but I walked out totally disappointed thus the reason of this review in hope that the owner addresses the issue. It took 30 min, literally, for my children's food to arrive which to me is understandable due to the busy night of 2/14 so I could have lived with that. The straw that broke the camel's back was the fact that for the next 20 min my food never arrived and the waitress was nowhere to be seen. I requested a cancelation of my order and that I was willing to pay for the drinks and my kid's food what I emphasized that I wanted the tab since my kids were done with the food but I wanted to go somewhere else to grab something to go. 10 more minutes passed and the waitress was MIA. The only employee that was helpful and checked on my table from time to time was this small lady very kind (I wish I knew her name to give her credit for her good work) and ended up receiving the tips of my order. The waitress, yet nowhere around and never checked on my table. My food and an appetizer, never showed up. If the waitress or the host would have told me that they were behind on the orders and that the wait time was greater than 20 min I would have been more reasonable since I was the making the choice to stay. Anyhow, walked out having no dinner. Not...
