10/19/2024So would have been an awesome birthday but to many lefts when there should have been rights. I booked almost two months in advance for two rooms. Spoke with them confirming one whole party but two rooms picked the closest times together and of course they said they would try their best to get it close together so it could be a race! But things happen I know but still they seemed short staffed or just was a bad day. I arrived on the correct time 5:15pm yes I booked two rooms one states arrival 5:15pm one 5:30pm. Both ran late one room didn't start watching video till 5:40ish. Mind you the how to video I was confused with the sarcasm. My 8 and 9 year Olds thought it was gonna be "lame" after the video. One group goes in finally seems good. 2nd room was 45 min late. I had parents standing outside complaining. I tried as best as I could as a parent but the employees were super busy couldn't barley help us outsiders. So I thought they were monitoring the rooms and making sure they were getting clues but again things happen but they were overwhelmed. One set of kids stated they had there hand raised for ever asking for a clue and it took "10 minutes" yes probably not that long but both of my older nephews that I had in the rooms to lead stated it was true. Nice idea but only for small groups i would not recommend a party. I called the day before as well to confirm if anything needs to be done. Lars and Ash I believe we're the only two there. The kid was moving as best he could. He was working fast and trying to do everything which was great to watch but I felt like he couldn't do it all with everything going on. The woman who I think is one of the bosses was very abrupt and flustered. She first was nice but then realized the longer the other room was taking starting making comments she wanted me to keep the kids outside of the place waiting to be called in. It was okay outside but parking lot kids running around main road busy a little hard to do. They couldn't accommodate the size of my party in the building which I would have understood if they were more realistic with me. She also then reminded me when I asked what was going on with the wait after 20 mins "Your the one arrived early." To which I was annoyed but then reminded her that in the emails they tell you to arrive for a at 5:15pm room 1 and room 2 5:30pm yes not thier problem I arrived at 5:15pm but I knew that can only really write one time on invites. But 45 min late she was giving me attitude. They kept having to go in the room to help with clues which was nice but then would leave and forget about them while prepping other rooms. I am all for having to flip a room ect but you still need to finish what you started. Again it seems like an awesome idea. But I would definitely say for small parties. And consistently communicate I guess if I emailed or called more maybe it would be different. Also I know people don't really look at customers just go through the process but getting me the parent and the one who made all the contact with everyone thinking I kept going in and out of the sugar rush room which I wasn't and when I asked if I can grab my husband's keys since the room finished first. "What you don't know where your going you have been in and out of that room breaking rules." "No that's my mother in law." Long post sorry I know. Like I said seems great for small party not for birthdays or anything larger than 7. UPDATE** I LITERALLY wrote this today and the owner responded right away and was so kind and apologetic. I love supporting small businesses and because of him I will return!

This was our first experience at an escape room so we chose “Museum Heist” which is listed as 6/10 difficulty, the least difficult offered at Tropic Escape. Our group consisted of 10 year old brother/sister twins who are either friends or enemies depending on the day, and myself. The twins started nagging each other and me as soon as the door shut. I thought…what was I thinking!? Why in the heck would I pay to be locked in a room with these two?! 🤣😂 Thank God for Alexandria, our game master! She had asked us before the games if we wanted any nudges in addition to the clues we’re able to ask for. Of course we do! The last thing I wanted to do was go home with the twin enemy defeated Losers! That would not have been an enjoyable evening. 🤣 I wanted the twin friends back and was praying for a win! Alexandria came through so many times with just enough of a nudge for us to get where we needed to be. The kids were stressed in the moment but will have super fond memories of our great escape as will I. We had 17 seconds left on the clock!! (I’m not completely sure she didn’t add some seconds at the end hahaha) But that’s what we needed for our game! It felt very personal for our group and what we wanted and needed for our experience. And that’s a win no matter the outcome. I highly recommend Tropic Escape and also Alexandria! I also loved the room and game/puzzles/challenge. I can’t wait to do another one but maybe with a different or bigger group next time. Thanks for the entertainment!

My son wanted to do the Museum Heist room for his birthday back in June, right at the end of school, and he and his friends had SO MUCH FUN. Austin even let us have cake and snacks in the back room for when they were done, too. He and six of his friends escaped with 44 seconds left. I sat outside the room with my husband and another mom, and even *we* were entertained listening to them work through the clues, especially toward the end as they were trying to open the door. Austin was great about taking pictures for us, too, which the kids and the other parents enjoyed. This was a fantastic activity for them. They have a group chat that's been going on for more than a year, and they are still making inside jokes about the museum heist and which one of them deserves to go to jail. They are all mostly 14 and found it to be the right difficulty for them: enough of a challenge without being so difficult that they were frustrated. Highly recommend!

If I could give it less I would. Took our family there after making reservations on line only to be greeted by an extremely rude individual at the front desk that quickly advised us that we should have arrived 15 minutes early for each member of our party to fill out their waiver form before we could enter the playing area. We had 6 adults and 3 kids in our party and again was rudely told that the time required to complete the form would be deducted from our playing experience. At that moment I was suddenly no longer in a playful mood and immediately requested a full refund for our advanced payment but abruptly told that we were not entitled to a refund and should have purchased additional insurance to be eligible for a refund of any kind. We were told that we would have to voice our displeasure with the manager (who of course wasn’t present) and sarcastically told “good luck with that”

I’m typically not one to complain and normally compassionate towards business’s suffering with employee incompetence, and in fact, this is my very first negative review that I’ve ever felt compelled to post. The flagrant disregard towards our dissatisfaction with respect to their unacceptable business policies and blatant unprofessionalism displayed towards myself and entire family by the apparent employee in charge on Saturday evening 6/25/22 is the sole reason I felt it necessary to caution anyone that may be interested in possibly patronizing this establishment in the future. I highly encourage anyone looking for a fun family night out in Southwest Florida to seek their innocent pleasures somewhere other than the Tropic Escape Room on Bonita Beach Road.

Reply to owner: as expected, you were obviously painted a completely different picture than the events that actually occurred. Also as expected, I presumed you would side with your employee on his version of what transpired to cause someone enough discontent to openly voice our dreadful experience when attempting to patronize your local establishment. Obviously, your so called GM confused us with another party of three because we were charged for 6 adults and informed that our young grandkids that accompanied us we free of charge. I’m honestly Not sure how or where we were mistaken for someone that apparently only made reservations for 3 people but regardless that isn’t even a factor and simply a mute point. We can certainly provide evidence of the charges you imposed for services never rendered.

We did in fact make reservations on line approximately one hour before the 7:00pm adventure and based on the fact that we literally live 20 minutes from your location we didn’t feel that was an issue of concern. We didn’t however anticipate the traffic back up due to the torrential storms in the area and that admittedly caused an approximate three minute delay in our arrival. When we offered the reason for our minor tardiness your valued employees exact reply is “I drive in it everyday” REALLY?

Furthermore, If you actually did review your security footage you would truly know that although we admittedly conveyed our discontent with the blatant disregard and arrogance of your employee, NO ONE was ever threatened and No Body from our party ever went anywhere beyond the front desk at any point and such false accusations need to be 100% retracted. I also find it somewhat amusing that you invite me to contact you if I’d like to discuss a possible resolution concerning the manner in which my family and I were rudely and abruptly mistreated by a particular member of your staff but ironically didn’t offer a number or avenue to reach you. Believe me, I’m not seeking any apologies and have much better things to do with my time, but I’d strongly encourage you to get an accurate accounting of the facts before you toss flagrant accusations towards me...

If you’re like me and you actually enjoy escape rooms and have done several before do NOT go here. The rooms are just not well done, they look cool but there’s no flow and the experience is poor compared to every other establishment myself and other commenters have been to. If you’ve never been you might enjoy this but don’t judge escape rooms based on this place. Usually they have a more fun flow to them.

Ive been to 6 escape room businesses and always had fun until here. I’ve done 2 rooms here and both were not seamless to me; very disorganized and confusing. My biggest feedback for the owner is that when many things are accessible rather than being sequential it’s not ideal. When many locks and components of the process are all visible from the moment you walk in it takes the fun out of it because there’s no surprises, and it also gets confusing because you have 40 combinations of what can go with what with no direction. Escape rooms should be structured and you shouldn’t even see lock 2 until you solve lock 1 for example. It’s just so much more intuitive and fun that way and you get surprised along the way so it’s engaging. That’s the thing I felt extremely bored in both rooms because one thing doesn’t go into the next so when you solve one thing it feels like you’re back to square one so you can’t build momentum and it gets boring. Maybe there should be one room like that for larger groups but I’m sure the majority of guests are 2 or 4 ppl so linear would be much better. They called the candy room linear but it’s not you can see many locks from the moment you walk in.

My favorite escape rooms in Tampa are sequential and it just makes it so much more cool and entertaining. The candy room did have surprises but most of it fell open with a slight touch before we even got to that part. It was still more fun than the music room but it has several elements that just fall open lol. I just really enjoy the ones that are in stages and lead to the next thing. These rooms are just kind of a series of independent tasks that don’t lead into each other at all. It’s kind of like an ADD escape room with mini tasks but not an overall comprehensive vision that takes the participant on a fun journey. There’s a storyline but again the actual tasks don’t go one into the next they all feel disjointed and random and don’t direct the participant on what is next at all.

The employees are nice and the rooms look cool, it’s just how they’re structured that needs a lot of...
