With such a kind staff (5 star) and awesome decor (5 star) I really wanted to love the food here but just couldn’t. I have been aware of Angela’s because of their other location in East Boston and have always wanted to try it so came to the Orient Heights location on a whim when we were in the area. The staff is really great and warm and welcoming, and the traditional Mexican decor makes it feel homey but the food is reaaaalllly lacking unfortunately. It’s really is not authentic when you compare to food in Mexico which I’ve had the pleasure to have several times. It always isn’t specifically “Puebla” food, it’s pretty run of the mill Mexican dishes from any state of Mexico. The mole poblano is about the most poblano thing on the menu.
When we came in and saw it was empty save for 4 tables of all white families eating (I’m white too so no hate) my first thought “hm…..no Mexicans eating here, will the food be good?” My El Salvadoran husband asked himself the same thing….anyways we were right…the food is VERREEY bland Americanized Mexican food.
We got the guacamole, it was SO overly lemony and lacking salt, and for some reason every other table in the place had salt and pepper on the table except ours and we were to ashamed to ask for one hahaha so that is on us….the chips are clearly fried in house but they were way over cooked and filled with oil and had that slightly burnt taste. The salsas they give with the chips and guacamole really appear to be from a jar but I might be wrong but they are def not Mexican salsas de molcajete.
I got enchiladas Rojas and my husband enchiladas de mole and again everything was so bland, especially the mole which was hugely disappointing as that is supposed to be a hugely flavorful dish from Puebla. The chicken filling was the most bland, flavorless, pulled shredded chicken…we were so surprised.
Anyways being 100% honest we ate it all because it was overall fine, we were starving, it just tasted like nothing…
My recommendations for more authentic flavorful Mexican food in MA: -Tenoch (multiple locations-Somerville, Medford, Melrose, etc) -Eloti (multi locations in Revere), -La Oaxaqueña in Everett and Revere -and if you ever find yourself in Western MA, La...
Read moreStopped in today for lunch. First time here nice clean place from the outside. Inside was clean and nice tables with open view to the outside. I was able to get a window seat.
I was handed a dinner menu when I came in for lunch. Server looked to be new. Ended up take her recommendation of a dish that she said they were known for...couldn't turn that down so I took her advice...big mistake. Since I ordered off the dinner menu I had to ask the server is there a salad or bread or nachos? She says "oh ya, your ordered off the dinner menu. She comes back with nice warm nachos which was the 1 star I gave and the best part of the experience. I had no salsa but a red dipping sauce and green sauce. Guess Salsa is to expensive. I asked for a ginger and cranberry with lime drink and was rewarded with a coke and cranberry instead. Turned that away and for what I asked for. The dish comes out and it's chicken with brown sauce all over it. No rice and no beans. Server had to go back. She comes back and asks, "how is everything?". I told her let me try it first. I take one bite of the chicken and it tasted like dirt. I'm not one guy to stuff a bill so I ate the rice and beans and chips. Drank the ginger ale and cranberry and told the server to get my check. I paid the 27 dollars with 2 dollar tip for nothing and exited the building. I will...
Read moreAs a frequent customer, decided to try an order on ubereats at the end of a long work day. I have an allergy to avocado, so I would never order anything with it. For the item I ordered on UberEats, the description did not have avocado. However, my husbands burrito did. Received the food, my food was smothered with guacamole and my husbands had none. We called the restaurant to ask for a new order. We were told to call back in 5 minutes because the manager was busy. Called back, was told the item ordered does come with guacamole. Explained again the UberEats menu does not reflect this and another time told it was sent as ordered and that I ordered it with guacamole(again have an allergy so wouldn’t do that), still haven’t spoken to the manager. This went on a few times and eventually was told call back in 15. Okay, so we call back in 15, the manager wouldn’t even talk to us and told the employee that we needed to order another order through UberEats and pay for it because their menu states the item I ordered has guacamole. Meanwhile, I have a screenshot of the menu from UberEats and nothing about it and why would I order if I have an allergy to it. Sad that the manager wouldn’t even talk to us on the phone or apologize or try to help resolve the issue. Needless to they’ve gotten a bad review and lost a few...
