I recently visited Cool Shade Jamaican Restaurant and had an extremely disappointing experience. I ordered three Oxtail patties at a high price of $15 each, totaling over $50. Not only were the patties overpriced, but they were also not hot when served.
To make matters worse, two out of the three beef patties I received had only a very small piece of oxtail on them. The wait time was promised to be 20 minutes, but I ended up waiting for an hour. It was frustrating to see a worker casually grab a beef patty and bring it to me after making me wait for so long. The lack of organization and efficiency was evident, with a crowd of upset customers also waiting for their orders.
Despite the potential for increased business due to social media exposure, thanks to a TikTok post, it is clear that Cool Shade Jamaican Restaurant is not prepared to handle the uptick in customers, despite the fact it’s been almost a month since the video started getting buzz. They are failing to capitalize on the opportunity to retain new customers by serving subpar food and providing poor service.
I had high hopes for this restaurant after seeing the buzz it generated online, but unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory. Cold beef patties with minimal filling are not worth the high prices charged. I will not be returning to Cool Shade and would advise others to think twice before...

If you're ever in the mood for lukewarm disappointment served with a side of "we really don’t care," then Cool Shade is the spot for you.
I came in craving rasta pasta with 7 shrimp (yes, I counted—because clearly they were rationed like gold nuggets), and left wondering if I had accidentally ordered it from Antarctica. The food was so cold, I thought Elsa herself plated it. Not even warm. Just... disrespectfully chilly. Like it had beef with the microwave and lost.
By the time it hit my table, my appetite had moved on and found a more fulfilling relationship elsewhere. I waited SO long for this igloo entrée, I started questioning my entire life. Honestly, this experience almost made me pick up a spatula and turn on YouTube like: “How to cook like someone who cares.”
To the owners: your food shouldn’t need a heated blanket. I came for flavor, not frostbite. Never going back. If y’all ever rename the place to Cold Shade, at least it'll finally be...
Read moreThis is not the place to come if you're in a hurry. They were slammed with a steady stream of take-out orders, Ubereats drivers, etc. Our food took quite a while to arrive, and we only got it because I got up and asked about it after our friends who ordered after us got their food before us. They had put it aside, because they weren't sure who had ordered it. It took even longer for another friend's food to arrive, because they forgot to drop his chicken wings in the fryer when he ordered them. But they were very apologetic about it, and ultimately, everything worked out.
When the food arrived, it was spectacular. The beef patties were delicious, with a generous portion of filling. The oxtail stew was some of the best I've ever had. The spicy shrimp were incredibly flavorful and fresh. And the mac n cheese is gooey, cheesy, and addictive.
Would I come back? Absolutely. But I would likely...
