This place is such a gem!!! I am so happy my husband and I found it. I love Taiwanese street food, and Formosa Bakery is one of my favorite places to get it in Boulder. The owner is very welcoming and kind. The menu has a variety of dishes, from noodles and dumplings to rice bowls and buns. Everything is made fresh and with quality ingredients. The bakery items remind me of my childhood. We had the pineapple bun, custard bun, and custard tarts. The most authentic Taiwanese bakery in Colorado. They also make Taiwanese cakes (order 24-48 hours in advance because the owner gets all the freshest local produce per cake). We will definitely be ordering a cake next time!
My go-to menu is the Taiwanese Street Food section. I also like the scallion pancakes, which are crispy and flaky, and the pork buns, which are soft and juicy. The portions are generous and the prices are reasonable. I always feel satisfied and happy.
If you are looking for a taste of Taiwan in Boulder, I highly recommend Formosa Bakery. It is a great place to enjoy authentic and delicious...
Read moreThis place is incredible. The owner (from Taiwan) is extremely passionate about crafting authentic, delicious food. So far of what I've tried (only been once so far), the siu mai is the absolute best I've had in Colorado. I also had the dan tat, sesame balls, and soup dumpling, all of which were deliciously on point as well.
It's pretty tricky to find though as the signage is realll lacking. There's a menu posted on a window. Find the door to the right of that and go in. Don't be thrown off that it doesn't look like a restaurant at all. Just walk through the first room and you'll likely find the owner to the left of that. It's takeout early and it takes a while to make (see how homemade it is?), so call your order ahead.
Do yourself (and Boulder) a favor. Try this place out, and then keep...
Read moreWhat an incredible find! My husband's mother owned an asian restaurant for 17 years and ordering from Nancy felt like grandma was in town! She uses natural from scratch ingredients, and cooks out of an industrial kitchen. The pickup was easy, the food was delicious and very reasonably priced for Boulder.
I highly recommend - we have been missing authentic food experiences for the 4.5 years we have lived in Boulder (moved here from NYC). Now we can no longer complain that authentic Taiwanese food does not exist here. We loved it so much we called to say THANK YOU after dinner. Nancy is amazing! Do yourself a favor and order! What a lovely person too - a 66 year old woman cooking for all of us. We are so lucky...
