Being taken advantage of is never cool. I visited Douglas for the first time in many years and it was not a great experience. I ordered for 2 adults and one kid. The order included 2 waffles, we didn't ask for deluxe waffles, but it was added on anyway, apparently the difference was a dolup of canned whipped cream and one cut up strawberry per waffle, this detail will be important later. we wanted to add on 2 eggs to both waffles and sausage to one, and one kids order of pancakes, 1 coffee and 1 hot tea. Somehow that order came out to over $60 dollars! In all of my years whenever I've been to a diner and ordered breakfast this way, eggs and meat is available as an addition to the item you order and it's presented that way on Douglas' menu as it is in every diner in the world. The price isn't necessarily the problem , even though at any other diner this meal would've been under $40 and I think I'm being generous. When we brought up the price of the meal in comparison to what's on the menu, we were informed that the "waffles deluxe" is a seperate item and there were not add ons allowed. Remember, we didn't ask for waffle deluxe, but it was entered into the system that way. So, she entered every single item as an individual menu item, the 2 eggs were entered as seperate meals and the sausage was entered as a separate side. When we brought up that we didn't ask for waffles deluxe and that we thought the pricing was unfair, they basically said, "tough" it was a misunderstanding and they wouldn't be changing the price. I understand that sometimes a language barrier can cause misunderstandings, but it feels like it was used as a reason to take advantage of us and that's not cool. They tried to say they'd do something next time, to which we replied there wouldn't be a next time. Simply a ridiculous experience I'd give 0...
Read moreI've been enjoying this inexpensive, but delicious, Salvadoran cuisine, here at Douglas Diner, now, for about 4 or 5 years. In particular, I order a delicious $3 side order of rice and beans, mixed together, called, "casamiento". All Spanish places have rice n beans, but every culture makes it different. And, when I'm hungry, in the area, and not "flush", with cash, this particular dish, has never failed me. Of course, being right across from the bus stop, train station, in the dead center of town, and right close to my driving routes down Easton Avenue and/or River Road, doesn't hurt either. And neither do the young and beautiful Spanish waitresses who work there, hurt my satisfaction of eating at this wonderful Salvadoran restaurant, either. They are friendly, they've helped me to learn more Spanish words and phrases, they never give me a hard time (like some waitresses have in other establishments), and during the pandemic, I was able to eat outdoors in a lovely setup, like an outdoor picnic, in part of their large (and FREE) parking lot, right in the center of town. So, let me give this quiet, humble establishment, a 5-star rating, for all it has...
Read moreAfter 10+years of being a regular at Douglas dinner today my rating went from a 5 to a 3. I loved the fresh orange juice here, I noticed the last couple of times I have visited that its becoming watered down. Today I ordered an orange juice and asked the server if it is pure orange juice or if they add water to it she assured me its 100% juice. several minutes later I told her it tastes like water and that I did not like it, she told me that I was wrong and no water was added to it. Never offered to take it away and refused to take it off my bill. I didn’t want to argue for a couple of bucks but I would like management to know that for something so simple not corrected on site they lost a loyal customer. Food has always been great here and never had an issue before, however I think management needs to step it up and do better. Im posting a picture of the juice, half water half pulp. It taste like water with a hint of orange juice. why not charge more and keep good quality? Highly disappointed, if this was an issue with a Drink….Cant imagine having an issue with an Entree. No customer satisfaction...
