As a New Yorker, being raised in the cradle of bagel innovation was both a blessing and a curse. I grew up with the best there is and, when I made the great trek west, was left with nothing.
I found myself in a bagel-less stooper when, almost as if it was a mirage, I saw “Cheryl’s EAST COAST STYLE bagels” and stumbled towards the door, barely clinging to life. Like a mouse, I squeaked out my order, “egg and cheese on a plain bagel, toasted, please.” To my surprise, there was no toaster to be found. Taken aback, I begrudgingly confirmed that I would accept my fate. An untoasted egg and cheese.
It was then in the hands of the bagel gods. As I waited for what I hoped would breathe just a sliver of life back into me, I wondered, “have I made a mistake?” I was then handed the goods. Eagerly I drove home, smelling the smells emanating from that beautiful brown paper bag. I rushed through my door, sat down, ripped open the shiny silver foil and revealed what was beneath: a bagel unlike any I had seen since leaving the banks of the Hudson River. Shame on me for doubting the bagel gods.
The outer shell was exactly what you’d hope for, crispy to the touch and golden brown. The cheese was oozing from the slice through the center of that magnificent sandwich. Without hesitation, I took the first bite. My wife tells me a tear swelled in my eye but I couldn’t be sure for I had nearly blacked out at the pure nostalgia that the bagel washed over me. This bagel is the truth. It is real. And it is the only bagel that anyone located within a short flight’s distance should be eating. 10/10, would recommend and will recommend to all that...
Read moreCame down from Kaysville to try Cheryl’s Bagels and they were more than worth the quick 15 minute drive! I walked in and was instantly greeted by not only the sweetest people working there, but also the amazing smells!
There was a bit of a line but I was quickly helped by Cheryl herself who was ready with recommendations. And she was spot on! I tried the Garlic bagel with Cheddar Jalapeño cream cheese, and since it was close to lunch time I branched out and got her chicken salad on the rosemary salt bagel. Both were spectacular. They were full of flavor, and the textures were on point!
She also wouldn’t let me complete my purchase till I tried the chicken salad to make sure I liked it! Which I thought was so thoughtful. You very much get the feeling that she really cares about what she does and the people she serves.
Another thing I was impressed with while I was there was an interaction she had with an employee. The employee must have had a child at home who had a medical procedure done, and needed to make some small schedule changes. All I heard from Cheryl was concern and care for this person and their child. She even said the words “Family first, always.” That right there made me a customer for life. I know we have all dealt with our fair share of jobs where we felt pressured to put our personal lives on the back burner, so it is refreshing to see someone care about the people they work with. Extra stars for that if I could give them.
Now I need to go find a fork to get the rest of the chicken salad that fell off...
Read moreCame in with my husband and ordered a dozen bagels and two bagel sandwiches. The food itself was a solid 5/5—great bagels with good proportions. I do wish they had been a bit warmer, but that’s just a minor complaint.
What brought my review down was the service 2/5. It seemed like a new employee was taking our order, and since it was our first time there, we had a few questions about the menu and accommodations for the "Bee's Bagels." The new employee appeared confused and entered our order incorrectly. Instead of guiding her through the process, the manager (or possibly the owner) abruptly pushed her aside and reassigned her to another task in a rather rude manner.
After that, the manager made passive-aggressive comments toward my husband and me, saying, "Your order was complicated enough." We truly weren’t trying to be difficult—we were just unfamiliar with the menu and wanted to get it right. On top of that, she rushed us through our order. While I understand that they were very busy and needed to keep the line moving however, as someone with years of experience training employees in the food industry, I believe there were better ways to handle both us as customers and the new employee. A little patience and clear communication would have made a huge difference.
I get that busy rushes can be overwhelming, but customer service and staff training matter. Hopefully, this was just an off day because the food was fantastic, and we’d love to come back—hopefully to a better...
