Chef Vaughn's Kitchen — Restaurant in Bourbonnais

Love to support small businesses especially those in the restaurant industry. This little place is super simple and hits the spot. Wish we had been around for Soul Food Saturday.

The portion sizes are generous. More than we expected for small size.

The owner is absolutely delightful and friendly.

The chicken Alfredo was top notch and impressed my husband.

My BBQ chicken loaded fries was a friend chicken breast cup up and out over fries with movie theatre nacho cheese slathered on top. Disappointing for $11.50

My biggest concern with the restaurant is cleanliness. The windows need cleaned, the trashcans need wiped down, ALL doors need scrubbed, the condiments on table need a serious wash, the bathrooms need an serious deep clean, and the mop board floor boarder needs a magic eraser. It’s obvious there isn’t a woman working here at all. Because the bathroom would never pass muster for a woman. In fact, it says employees must wash hands, but there is no soap in the dispenser, and no single use paper towels.

IF they don’t know your name they call you HEY to get your attention to pick up the order.

It’s a small business and I wish...

Pretty disappointed after coming here many times for the spaghetti and it hasn’t been here. Then one day they said “spaghetti is only on Saturday” so I waited till Saturday and came at 3:00pm. They said “we don’t have it”. Then we explained how we have been told it’s on Saturday and they then said it will be ready at 4:00pm. So we drove around for an hour and came back for it. We were then told the lady who was supposed to bring the stuff for the spaghetti didn’t come. So they still don’t have it. I think they need more reliable sources and more knowledgeable staff and probably need to wake up earlier and have their menu items prepared for when they’re open. Or take some things off the menu if they cannot handle preparing it daily to keep the business coming. Very irritating. This makes me less likely to come back...

Every single thing we have ordered from here is delicious and piping hot when I get it home! The catfish, soul food dinners & Philly cheese steak have all been a hit, BUT what steals the show every time???? His cajun lobster alfredo!!! O.M.G!!! I get 2 meals out of the regular and my fiance gets 2 meals out of the large. Huge chunks of REAL lobster meat in every single bite!

While the food is AMAZING, it is ALWAYS consistent, as well. If you work in the food industry, you KNOW how very important this is!!

Last, but not least, is the owner. I have never been there when he does not have a huge smile on his face or has not taken a minute to say hello. No matter how busy he is, he always greets his customers and chats with them. He loves what he's doing and it shows thru his food and his demeanor. I'd give 10 stars...
