I was drawn to this place due to the authentic seeming atmosphere it carried. I had the shoyu bowl at Mitaka Japanese Ramen House. This is when everything took a turn for the worse. The dish came with my favorite ramen topping -- chashu pork. The pork is straight up not as advertised. Japanese chashu pork is completely different, and has evolved past the char siu pork it was based off of. I was excited for chashu and I got what seemed to be char siu instead. The seasonings were also completely wrong, and made the dish completely inedible once it permeated the broth, and other ingredients. Mitaka Japanese Ramen House gave me the experience of the worst take on ramen. The direction taken with the ramen is inauthentic and confused. The flavors clash, and in no way represent how ramen actually is. It doesn't taste very good, and it certainly doesn't reflect a bowl of Japanese Ramen. I wouldn't recommend Mitaka Japanese Ramen House to anyone, as it's bad for newcomers because it'll skew your perception of real, authentic ramen. I wouldn't recommend it to veterans because it tastes disgusting, and doesn't take like any ramen you've ever had in a very terrible way. As it stands there is no decent ramen house in the Sarasota-Bradenton area. If you want to take a look at my full dive at Japanese Mitaka Ramen House, you can find it by searching "chowavow" on Google.

I love a good ramen shop and I know a little about ramen, produce my own ramen cooking show on YouTube. But enough about me. Let me say that Mitaka is one great place to get ramen. I arrived with a small group of people at an almost full restaurant. Instead of having us sit at the bar the ladies at Mitaka actually moved a few tables together so we could all sit together. Our server asked us to check in via Facebook to receive a free order of karaage, Japanese fried chicken. We also ordered the gyoza as well. The appetizers were delicious. As an entree I ordered the Tonkatsu Ramen. The ramen was garnished perfectly with everything you want. Pieces of pork belly, pickled ginger, hardboiled egg (sliced in half), bamboo shoots, a piece of naruto, & two small sheets of nori. The broth was warm, beefy, slightly spicy, a little fishy (from the naruto), & really tasty. It took me no time to finish off my bowl of ramen. The staff was really welcoming & checked on us multiple times. The decor was reminiscent of ramen shops I have been too before. The mural along the wall was pretty cool looking too. We all enjoyed our ramen. Plus we had fun trying to teach my father how to use chopsticks. If you live in Bradenton or just visiting then I recommend dropping by Mitaka and order some ramen. I will definitely be going again.

I went to Mitaka Japanese Ramen House twice recently. It's a great alternative to the usual food fare if you’re craving for a alternative change of pace. Nice firm noodles, just the way I like it, a Japanese version of al dente pasta. I had the tantanmen. Rich spicy broth; and with each spoonful a different combination of add-ons fill your mouth with texture and flavour, and mixed in with bits of ground pork. You can ask for less spicy of you’re just starting out. Garnished with oh so thinly sliced green onions and dried pepper. Would prefer a harder boiled egg though. Also ordered the shrimp and veggie tempura, which was very lightly battered and crispy, as it should be. I would prefer a regular soup spoon instead of the wood laddle though, I can dive in the broth with more surgical precision :-) . I look forward to next time when I have a craving for it. Revising my earlier review. The ramen noodles are really good. The gyoza, likewise. We've been here three times for lunch, each time ordering the lunch specials. (Great deals btw.) Each time we got our little card stamped, with the promise thatafter X meals, we'd get one free ramen bowl. We thought that was a smart idea for a new restaurant especially. On our last trip, we presented the card for stamping and were suddenly told it wasn't valid if we ordered lunch specials. We protested that every other meal, we'd ordered the same. No, we were wrong. We asked for the card back and although I can't be sure (really, I can't be sure), the card I got back was a different card - it looked like two of the stamps had been erased (because there was still a little red remaining in the boxes), and it suddenly said on the back that it wasn't valid for lunch specials. Okay, maybe I'm wrong. Maybe we just managed to overlook that, though it would have been hard to do because it was printed quite clearly on the card. Maybe the restaurant could have sent a manager over to explain, since we were clearly flustered and confused by the sudden turn-about. Maybe we should have saved every receipt we'd gotten from them over the past six months, though I don't think that would have helped. I still think the "12 stamps, get X free" is a great idea, even if "X" is just an inexpensive appetizer. But we left feeling like it was a bait and switch, and the switch was pretty sudden. And on top of that, one of us has severe allergies, so he ordered "no egg, very very important, please some extra vegetables instead." The kitchen ignored the request and brought him ramen with egg in it. We received another bowl of ramen (this time with no egg and no vegetables), but really, kitchen staff should be trained that a life-threatening allergy needs to be taken seriously - especially when it could shut them down. We didn't even get an apology from the management. Thank goodness our allergic person is really paranoid about his allergies and double and triple checked. We...

Ordered via Doordash yesterday (01/12/2021). Other than the Tantanmen ramen that I ate, the only other substances I consumed for the entire day were 1 coffee and water. After I ate shortly after 2pm, I started to feel off. By the time 6pm had rolled around, I had to bail on an activity with my friends because my stomach was feeling so off.

All in all, I was bedridden from 6pm-11pm because it was so painfully uncomfortable to stand up/sit down, that the only thing that brought me an ounce of relief was clinging my abdomen tightly to my pillow in bed. I honestly thought I might have to have an appendectomy because my right side was bloating and hurting so much--I called out of work today because I was unsure what was going to happen.

Around 10pm, I finally experienced some bowel rumbling, and decided to test my luck on the toilet. I had diarrhea on 4 separate occasions within the next hour. Finally, after experiencing some momentary relief, I was able to relax on the couch for a few hours before going back to bed around 1am.

At 4am today, I woke up, and the bloating and inflammation was back in full force. I tossed and turned until about 6:20am (that's when I texted my boss with an update on my condition), at which time I was forced to get out of bed and puke into the sink (didn't make it to the toilet). Lo and behold, all of the ramen I had eaten came right back up. After I vomited, I immediately felt better, and have been slowly recovering since (it is now a little under 24hrs since I ate the ramen).

I have eaten here before, which is why I ordered from here, but this will definitely be my last time. Needless to say, I did not enjoy...

We were greeted as soon as we walked in and seated right away. We had the Karaage chicken, soft shell crab buns, and ramen. The Karaage was not very flavorful or crispy but the dipping sauce was good. The chicken used was breast and because of the dice on it, it became more tough than tender to the bite. The soft shell crab bun was very bland. Usually the components have independent flavors that work together as one, but there was no flavors individually which made for a very bland bun. The crab itself was well fried but very under seasoned. I had the miso ramen with added chicken. This was the star of the meal! Every item (pork belly, chicken, egg, broth) had its own distinct taste but worked in harmony to make one delicious noodle soup. The noodles were firm but tender. You can tell they are freshly made. The broth was aromatic so it got your mouth ready for the flavor impact. The pork belly was super thick sliced and tender. It wasn't overly fatty or over cooked to where it just disintegrated when picked up. The roasted chicken was an add on but it was worth it. It was just a couple pieces like some like to add, but it was a whole boneless thigh sliced up. Well seasoned and not over cooked/dry. The egg, while tasty was over cooked but some like the egg to be completely cooked in the middle. I'm accustomed to having my yolk warm enough to start to thicken but still runny enough to mix into the broth. All in all, I will be back for...
