I don't mean to be nasty here, but this should be more of a learning experience for this restaurant and customers alike. As Gordon Ramsay might suggest, beware of any establishment that has too large of a menu and way too many specials. There is no way this dated little place could possibly provide any quality food from its massive menu when they straight up blew the basics. Greek salad had a couple flakes of feta and one singular (minature) Greek olive. It was limp and drowned in dressing. We stuck to ordering the basics like gyros and the Greek Platter because the giant menu and excessive prices were scary. The gyros were average at best, and you can go down the street to Salem's for two gyros (better) for $11.99. All food on the platter looked as if Chef Mike (the microwave) was in charge. Everything on that platter was limp and leftover from an unknown time. These meals came with dessert, which was a poor excuse for such. Even the actual dessert we ordered was expensive and nothing noteworthy.
The decor itself is very dated. The place looked old and in need of a makeover. Kinda feels like a funeral home with an abundance of cheap "Greek" (Chinese) statues on some shelves. Service was ok, but somehow you get the feeling certain customers were in the "club" and we were not. It's rude to carry on an extended conversation at the register with some customers while others wait in line to pay.
Bottom line here is that we payed 70+ dollars for a substandard meal including no alcohol. The owner and potential customers must know that a WIDE variety of other options are available at this (or lower) price points that are guaranteed to satisfy. That's a recipe for failure. Too bad Kitchen Nightmares isn't still taking on...
Read moreLet me first start by saying the food here is fabulous! Sadly, I won't be eating it anymore after dealing with the rude lady at the window. Customer service 101 - the customer is always right! So rewind several weeks back we ordered pancakes to go. My husband didn't pay attention when signing the bill for breakfast that it was $30! For pancakes and a tea? He called when he got home and she said since we added blueberries (which the girl suggested) they charged you $4.00 TWICE. So we paid $8.00 for a handful of blueberries? Would be nice if you maybe mention we will be paying for your 2 containers of blueberries with this order! So, today I decide to use my credit and order a salad and I'm told she couldn't find any IOU but one of the girls remembered. (like I'm lying about it?) I said I think it was a new girl that took the order (which is what we were told when he called about the $30 tab). She said we don't have any new girls that work the a.m. shifts. Something about they get to stay home with their families. So I guess their old, longer term employees don't? She said if you had the bill I could look at it. I explained it was weeks ago and he didn't get a receipt. She said he had to have a receipt to know what to pay. I didn't argue with her, just signed my receipt (with no tip, sorry!) BTW, I did not get a copy...
Read moreThis is one of the only restaurants in town serving meals that are compatible with the Mediterranean-South Beach Diet, i.e. low bad cholesterol but good HDL cooked in olive oil and low sugar. Olympic does offer Italian dishes served with pasta and heavy sauces, including veal, and its probably healthier for you than other family style Italian restaurants and Italian-inspired chain restaurants in town. I can tell Angelo, the owner, does not use preservatives in his food. Even the less healthy popular foods, like chicken tenders do not use heavy breading and fat. Its a light breading with lemon seasoning.
What makes this restaurant special is the fish, around $15 per entree which is a few dollars more than the poultry and meat dishes, and the Greek specialties, like Saganaki, grape leaves, spinach pie, baklava, and the best gyro-lamb meat in town. The size and scope of the menu is ambitious, but surprisingly I have never had a bad meal there.
The prices, $10 to $15 per dinner entree and around $9 to $10 per lunch item are quite reasonable considering the quality of the food. If you want an upscale and trendy atmosphere, then Olympic is...
