So we ventured to Marandolas after my niece received her Masters from Monmouth College. We had 11 people and a reservation at 5pm. Some of us arrived at 4:45 and the doors were open but we were told to wait outside until 5pm... So we finally assembled at about 5:15. Our waitress was Marilyn who promptly told us here raspy voice was due to allergies. The menu was not extensive which i prefer and there were nice choices of fish , meat, pasta etc. Marilyn made it clear that there was no room for substituting items on the menu, although a few of our guests were allowed to have items removed. Our appetizers came out hot but Marilyn had to make 5 seperate trips to deliver multiple appetizers so some folks started eating and some had to wait. There was a servers assistant named Marcel there but for some reason didnt assist in serving any food but was attentive to silverware, water and bread. Same happened with entrees, 5 trips back and forth to serve entrees, with Marcel not involved with serving a large party...i would have had him help serving so everyone could eat at same time. Food was delicious, Marcel was attentive, but once the food was served Marilyn just chatted with the woman at the front of the dining room. Took like 15 mins to get her attention to open another bottle of wine. We didnt order any deserts. The chef did come out and introduced himself and we told him food was delicious. Service was basically OK but not great. Marilyn could have made herself more accessible and they could allow Marcel to serve so all food comes out together. This is always a peeve of mine...they should always try to serve entrees together without trips back and forth. The place wasnt mobbed and they had an assistant so they bumbled this part of the evening...otherwise the food quality and taste made up for the not so great service..I probably wont...
Read moreI heard good things about this restaurant so I made reservations while they were on winter break for Valentine's Day for me and my wife. We planned on going out at 6:30 but last minute our sitter had to cancel and being we didn't want to leave our 11-year-old son home alone we decided to bring him so we did not cancel our reservations on such a busy night leaving the restaurant stuck with an empty table. My wife and son walked in as I was parking the car and was met by a rude hostess that would not accommodate an additional seat for our son even though we explained the situation. She told my wife it's Valentines Day and your son should have stayed home. This made my son feel like it was his fault we could not go into the restaurant thus making the hostess cancel our reservations. When I later spoke with the hostess to try and justify the reason why we brought our son she did not want to hear it. For a very family style atmosphere I felt this was not very family oriented. We will never go back there again and I will tell everyone who asks me about the restaurant about our...
Read moreBeen meaning to try Marandola's for a few years, noticed that they were having a restaurant week special, and made a reservation to dine there last night. Everything was fantastic, I wish I had come sooner! The food was incredible, the staff was attentive, and they made the experience of dining with a (reasonably well behaved) toddler quite comfortable. My fiancé and I shared their Caesar salad (excellent/homemade dressing) and their tasty beans & shrimp appetizer (similar base to Pasta Faggioli), which was perfection! For entrée she savored the Veal Saltimbocca dish, tender and cooked perfectly, and I enjoyed Bell & Evans chicken breast with delicious sweet sausage, incredible broccoli rabe & potatoes. Our toddler got a little fussy, so we took home dessert - a tasty cannoli & tiramisu. Everything was great, even saw some acquaintances that are regulars - will be...
