Fantastic! We have been disappointed with the quality of takeout chinese food from branford hill to wallingford to clinton since ho sai gai left main street a few years ago. China garden has filled that culinary void. centrally located, very clean inside, very tasty food was not too salty and not extra greasy. Fried rice has good pork and onion, great taste and none of those dry peas and carrots at some places, awesome. The gen tso's we got was pretty mild which was great for us but spicy fans may want to ask for it hot! Their gen tso sauce and soup were not thick corn-starchy. Gen tso was white meat just the right breading more small pieces vs a few big ones. Broccoli steamed just right for me! Wonton filling could have used more scallion but way fresher flavor than somewhere like Zhang's wontons!! . Lo mein was fresh tasting and not at all greasy. Exactly what you want in takeout. You do have to order egg rolls separate with some combos but the prices are very reasonable. Their menu even seems to compete with Som Siam (thai) and Darbar (Indian), China Garden offers pad thai and biryani. Even though we love those two resturants for their distinct high quality delights I can see these options available at a Chinese takeout occasionally solving the age old mystery of "what can we agree on for take out?!". Takeout only. They offer unique appetizer tidbit combos similar to Lion City, which is a very decent competitor located on brushy hill (which I would also reccomend depending mostly on...

It was all way WAY too sweet and otherwise flavorless. They used way too much cornstarch to thicken all the sauces; everything felt “goopy”
The crab Rangoons were sweet enough to be desserts. The hot&sour soup was neither hot nor sour; it was cool&bland. My two teenage sons tried the beef & broccoli and said it wasn’t very good. Then they wouldn’t eat the shrimp&garlic sauce at all!
We ate the moo goo gai pan, which was exactly as bland as it was supposed to be. That’s the dish hot sauce was made for. I ate the shrimp egg rolls, which were also bland but I wasn’t expecting much flavor to begin with.
Everyone ate the General Tso’s chicken, but it too sweet and simultaneously bland.
The place was clean and the service...
Read moreThis is an updated review to the last one and its been quite a few months since my last one. Three or four days ago when we got back into Branford we got our favorite chinese food from China Garden and as always its done exceptionally well and ever so spot on in taste always leaving us wanting so much more. China Garden never seems to let us down foods always done great fresh and tasting awesome! This time we both got our favorite which is the Chicken Lo Mein with extra green and white onions in the large size for both of us. And then a small size Chicken Fried Rice for a friend. The foods always cooked just right and leaving some for later because we can never seem to eat it all in 1 seating. 5☆ China Garden your foods Awesome!!! Try there food you'll be glad you did we...
