I’m an executive chef with 40+ years of elevated fine dining and service experience. If you wish to latch onto an accurate review, this would be the one.
Remember, restaurants wish to separate you from your money at the lowest cost to them and the highest charge to you. Home Restaurant does this exceptionally well.
My salmon w greens was a mess. The tiny portion (3 oz) of salmon was alarming. I cut fish weekly - I know what proteins weigh by eye. The portion was so small it appeared as an afterthought during plating. It was served aside a drenched puddle of shredded green kale. The dressing was a mass market jug type - which are made w chemical ingredients that you don’t want to know.
The cost to this restaurant for this dinner was under $4 and the charge to me was $27. Stinger.
Guests on each side of me had food that was also inedible. The Puttanesca Risotto presented as pink pancake. It was salty and lacked texture, interest, and identifiable ingredients typically used when making a P sauce.
The Broccoli and Beef Soup was kitchen-tired and heavily salted. The beef was in hair-thin shreds. The guest had a couple of bites, packed it up and brought it home to feed her dog.
A pair of other guests had some type of sandwich on rye. From my view across the table, it appeared there nothing between the bread?? French fries were what I label “the dump” on the plate - half an empty dish - hmmm - what can we put here - fried potatoes - YAWN. One guest I queried had just two bites and said she wasn’t hungry.
Service was nonexistent. After a late arriving guest sat next to me, it was I who had to summon a staff person for a menu, then water, and to have her order taken. Wow! When dinners arrived at the table, it became the going once, going twice auction: “ who has this and who has that? “
I emailed and called the restaurant. I spoke with a front end person at length and requested a call back from the chef or owner - no response.
This was a bad experience. The restaurant took in $350 in revenue with gratuity for eight people. There were two or three glasses of wine and one nonalcoholic beer on the table.
I would AVOID this establishment. Rather, go to a grocery store and enjoy quality food that you cook yourself. Home Restaurant sets yet another low bar which seems to be plaguing a troubled industry. It gave me - as almost every restaurant does - another reason NOT...
Read moreI hate to give bad reviews to restaurants. I know a lot of peoples jobs rely on it and the weight staff was pretty good. They were young. They weren’t great. I was not happy with my food. We went on a Tuesday and whoever was cooking. Definitely mailed it in. When I couldn’t eat what was brought to me I thought maybe I’ll just get some hummus. And the waitress brought it out and I said this looks like it was putting this bowl a week ago and she said oh no that’s just the oil on top that we put on it. So, I tried to dip a piece of flatbread in it and it was hard as a rock. So the waitress said left by then, but I picked up the bowl to try to dip the bread in it again and the bowl was ice cold so the hummus had been put in it who knows when and put in the freezer or the walk-in Refrigerator and I know restaurants do that stuff to prepare for busy times etc. but to me that was just gross. I don’t like any type of condiment or anything like that was prepared. Who knows when it has been sitting in a refrigerator for who knows how long who knows if it’s been covered. I honestly think maybe the health department needs to come by I don’t know if maybe they been by I need to look in the window. It’s not fair to say that, but I didn’t nothing that I had. I had the eggplant which was I mean this is my fault I didn’t read the menu I guess because it was like eggplant putting a blender which I thought was gross. I don’t know who think of that but and then mustard, the balls and deep fried breaded mush Balls marinara sauce didn’t taste like marinara. It tasted like hot sauce and it was hot like it was like they just added hot sauce to marinara and that was gross. I also ordered the oriental brussels sprouts and they were to say they were fair it would be a misnomer. My mom said that she didn’t think they were bad but to me they were Dried like they were cooked a week ago stuck in the fridge raider and then I don’t know how they heated them up. I’m guessing the microwave and then they mix the oriental sauce with it before they microwave. It was not good so I went to Ashley‘s and got some ice cream. And I’m never going back to...
Read moreA very cute place and the staff was very nice. I can't speak to the regular menu as I was there for a wedding rehearsal dinner. They had us in a nice back room with plenty of room. It was a very nice atmosphere. The menus for the rehearsal we're great looking, but I'm not sure if they were done by the restaurant.
There were times when the staff seemed a little overwhelmed and they forgot one dinner plate when our table was served, but I'm a realistic person and don't expect perfection. The mistakes were overshadowed by otherwise good service. The restaurant was very clean and well maintained. Parking might be a challenge during the peak hours.
As for the food: The h'ordearves, which included a savory pastry and buffalo Mac and cheese, we're excellent, better than the actual meal. I thought the new england clam chowder was really thin, almost watery and the rest of the food was good, not spectacular.. but when is chicken spectacular? Everyone seemed pleased with their main course. The broccoli rabe was disgusting, mainly because I thought it was asparagus and had never before been subjected to the horror that is broccoli rabe... but I suppose this little restaurant isn't responsible for me not liking vegetables. People who like broccoli rabe, yes these people exist, said it was good. The desert after the meal was good, but the coffee was cold as they had it out on the table since our arrival.
I think they did a great job on the rehearsal dinner as a whole, the place looked great and the bride and groom were happy which is what...
