As a travel Nurse, I have been all over the US drinking coffee. Duchess has provided some of the best coffee I have ever had anywhere. During modern times the value of a good local business has become immeasurable. To succeed doesn't just require a great service or product. It requires recognition and word of mouth. Brattleboro VT is a special place and the rare gem that Duchess is should be treasured. If you haven't been here go. If you have and you like it, tell a friend, write a social media post, shout it from the rooftop. Thank you guys, and Roll Tide.

I'm in love with this little shop. The combination of excellent specialty third wave coffee and small little book shop is perfect. A few spots inside to sit as well as seating outside. The staff are super intentional on where they source their coffee partnering with women coffee farmers from South and Central America. The quality of coffee is superb and they're book selections are also incredible and educational. Highly recommend! Baristas are super kind and approachable and beyond knowledgeable about the coffees they serve. ❤️👍🏻👌🔥🌟💯

Step into this lovely space and you will immediately realize you are in the presence of artists. Artists who have carefully created an experience for you — a community of kindness and inquiry and a celebration of makers, growers and writers. One part espresso bar, one part gallery-like book shop. Every drink is beautifully crafted, and they also offer fresh pastries from local bakeries. My current favorite drink is the flat white, but I love their Duchess Gray too.

Here, in no particular order, is a non comprehensive list of things that I love about Duchess Coffee:

  1. Their mission to purchase coffee from women led farms and cooperatives means that my addiction is also doing some amount of good in the world.

  2. The coffee is amazing. Jeremy has gone full otaku for coffee and brings so much knowledge and care to the roasting process that the specific qualities of each variety really shine. I love the different flavors and subtle notes that come out in each cup.

  3. It’s because of Duchess that I started caring about and paying attention to how the coffee is processed, not just how it is roasted and brewed.

  4. Ruth and the other baristas are personable, responsive, and really know their stuff, particularly when it comes to espresso.

  5. The best espresso I have ever had. Sweet, round, potent, complex. Happiness in a tiny cup.

  6. The space is really pretty. They’ve avoided the typical look that specialty coffee retailers have converged on over the past decade and created a well lit, nicely coordinated cafe that is clean and contemporary.

If you are ever in Brattleboro from 8 AM to 4 PM, Wednesday through Sunday, and you need a good cup of coffee and/or an interesting book (they sell books too) you really should go to...

Set both physically and symbolically opposite the busy Windham Court House, this place has spectacular coffee. Very impressive selection of books. The workers seem good natured. Ethics focused. This place is an excellent contribution to Brattleboro. It almost feels out of place here due to it feeling up to date with clean lines and feel. Supporting businesses like this is a good move.

Even in a storefront full of words, all of them fail to describe the chai donuts that are on the counter at an irregular (perhaps dopamine-rush-tuned) interval.

I don’t know the couple super well but the sure as hell nailed whatever...

This coffee shop checks all the boxes!!

If you are looking for a cozy well designed atmosphere, comfortable places to sit, and friendly people this is your spot!

The coffee, I got an oat milk latte, was fantastic. So highly recommend. There is a small pastery selection ad well.

Also, books! One of my favorite things is a coffee shop bookstore combo. Clearly the people here care about coffee and a place for people to come to and relax.

Highly recommend!! Also, just note that the road is one way. So if you miss the shop you will have to go around. The signage says its a bookstore first. At least that is what...
