Homey yet elegant, the Inn on Putney Road lives up to the charm one looks for in a Bed and Breakfast. It is cozy and the sense of passion for hospitality comes through. My family member and I stayed a couple of nights. When we arrived, we had space to breathe and become acquainted with the room and house. It felt open, welcoming, and was quiet: just what we longed for when escaping to Vermont for nature and peace. The gorgeous antiques were varied. Each common area was a joy to be in. The room was lovely, clean, and nicely arranged. The mini refrigerator in the closet had plenty of space and there was a carafe of water in it as well as seltzers in glass jars. We let the innkeepers know we were vegan ahead of time, and plant-based popcorn and chocolates, made by local companies, were in a basket on the vanity- a thoughtful touch. There were beautiful pottery mugs for tea and coffee in the room, of spring colors. These were also downstairs for use and there were others for sale: souvenirs to bring home. The mugs are made in MN by a small company, Deneen Pottery. The Harney and Sons looseleaf and bag tea was offered in delicious flavors. All of these mostly local and small business offerings added to the experience. The bed was very comfortable and the bath was delightful for easing the muscles after hikes and cool air. The robes were a luxurious touch. We felt like characters in a period drama: going downstairs to play the piano in the fine room with the fireplace, or for a game of pool. There was also a chess table in another small room which was finely decorated. There were board games and books in abundance. The yard had lighting in the trees at night. Past the bubbling fountain in the middle, there were patios that looked through tall pines at the river below. The stars shone brightly, and we warmed in front of the fire. The Inn people we met were Paul, the owner, and also Fay, and Marie. All were brightly welcoming. Breakfast was exquisite with multiple courses. They took care to provide us filling and flavorful meals with plant-based eggs and sausage, potatoes, grapefruit with a sweet crust of and cinnamon covered in fruit, parfait, and French toast with local maple syrup....
Read moreMy wife and six month old son recently visited family in Brattleboro and chose The Inn on Putney Road for our overnight stay, and it truly was a great experience!
Prior to our stay, the communication and booking process were extremely easy, and Paul & Judy helped guide us on accommodating our six month old in one of the carriage house rooms. We were a bit nervous about bringing a six moth old to a B&B, but the experience was more than positive!
Upon arrival, our stay was immediately relaxed and low key, thanks to Paul. We felt more than comfortable with the cleanliness of every space at the Inn and the precautions in place related to COVID-19. Our room in the carriage house was great! The main house - the Inn itself - is really cool, too, and the grounds are beautiful and well maintained. We had everything we needed, and more (they had snacks in the room, as well as hand sanitizer, bug spray, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash readily available).
Our breakfast the next morning was fantastic! Paul prepared a delicious three course meal: homemade muffins featuring local peaches; a homemade strawberry and kiwi yogurt parfait; finally, the main breakfast course was a swiss chard and roasted tomato omelette with ricotta, along with bacon and braised beets & shallots. It was memorable enough for us to remember the details, that's for sure!
With family in the area, returning to the Inn on Putney Road is a no-brainer. Even if they did not live in Brattleboro, I can truthfully say that we would look forward to returning either way.
Thank you again, Paul, and we look forward to hopefully meeting...
Read moreWe had a great winter stay in the maple room. It felt cozy and private like a cabin but close enough to town that we could explore without a car. The fireplace and jacuzzi tub were easy to operate. The room was kept clean and there were snacks we arrived! Breakfast is hefty/filling and can be hit or miss for picky eaters; having fruit and yogurt was not my husband's favorite, and I'm not the biggest fan of eggs or ham. shrug In all fairness, we did not alert them of any of our food aversions and sharing is caring... despite our tastes we both liked the things the other one of us didn't.
Anyway, the town had great bookstores (used and new) great beer (Hermit Thrush {for funky stuff} & Arkam {for divey crowd} & Kiplings {classic bar bar}, we love yous guys), solid eats (Hazel $$, Elliot St. Fish $, Duo $$$, Tulip Cafe $), and thrifty hunting grounds (Twice Upon a Time). Great getaway for two Philly kids on a relaxed holiday! I highly recommend The Inn On Putney Road over Latchis; that place felt like a dorm room. We split our time and, looking back, regret leaving John and Cindy as...
