I want to highlight the pro's of Latchis before discussing the cons. The pros are the fantastic staff that I was able to communicate with while checking in, the unique style and convenient location.
The cons.....
The bed was by far the worst bed I have ever slept on. I woke up several times during the night and ended up just staying awake until we could check out. When I returned home I had horrible pain on my entire right side from neck to hips. My husband also slept horribly and this was supposed to be a relaxing weekend away for his birthday. It left him in pain and far more exhausted than before, I felt terrible.
No AC unit inside the room....they have what they consider central air...it's one small vent and they keep the temperature above 70. It was 90 degrees during our stay and we were miserable with the two fans they provide to combat the heat.
The hotel does not have a kitchen/restaurant at all, so there are no options for room service or add ons like flowers in the room, chocolates, or snacks - I emailed ahead of time asking if I could pay extra to have a small snack in the room upon arrival for my husband but they promptly told me they do not offer that service. I ended up hauling ingredients to put together a cheeseboard myself all the way there from our home over an hour away - it worked but it would have been nice to have paid a bit extra to avoid the coolers, extra bags, set up, etc.
Don't add a package...they have an option to add a package which supposedly covers dinner at one of the selected restaurants, 2 movie tickets and 2 sodas as well as two popcorns - this sounds wonderful but it's tricky. The options given are quite upscale. When we went to our restaurant with our gift certificates we realized quickly that they did not cover taxes or gratuity, they give you two $25 certificates. If you don't end up spending over the $50 you wouldn't have the ability to tip. Knowing this I went ahead and just used one so I could cover the remainder of the bill and tip our waitress. They charged my card for the entire meal. There are also only two movie times....1:45 PM and 7 PM - that's it. If those times don't wok, you will miss your shot, and we did. So I ended up paying an extra $60 for nothing.
There were two windows in our room, one was stuck open because it was broken and it just made the room ten times hotter.
We got lucky and were able to park in the very tiny lot they have reserved for guests, but we saw many people drive through disappointed and leave when they found nothing. You are not able to pull up and unload your things, so we had to haul several bags and a cooler up the street and into the lobby
The worst part of all of this was that I felt I overpaid for discomfort. I budgeted throughout the year for this weekend and was so...

THE HOTEL / AMY REFUSED TO REFUND ME. Sorry Amy, is this bad review really worth not refunding the $130?? (she actually told me she takes the good with the bad - reviews that is. Crazy attitude for a general manager I find.)
INITIAL POST: Made a reservation online. Received my reservation confirmation by email. This was a non-refundable reservation.
I arrived 10:03 pm to check in. The doors were locked and staff was gone, and no way to check in. The front door had a note saying to use the side door, but that one was closed as well. I called the hotel (10:07 pm) but went straight to voicemail. Thus I simply had no way to check in and was 10:10 pm by now. I had to call other hotels in the area to book a room.
In my confirmation email there is NO MENTION OF HAVING TO CHECK IN BEFORE 10 PM. Besides that, what hotel closes its doors at 10 PM ?? That's like a restaurant closing for lunch to give its staff a lunchbreak... go figure.
I emailed both the hotel as well as the online reservation service (Hotels in America). Got NO REPLY FROM HOTEL, got reply from Hotels in America stating that if the hotel approves the cancellation, they will refund.
I didn't cancel my reservation, I was at the hotel, unfortunately just minutes after they closed.
POOREST SERVICE I HAVE EVER SEEN. I really support small businesses as I own a small business, but I take care of every single customer, and ask from my staff to take care of every customer. This, on the contrary, is the hotel totally disregarding its customer - as said, they have not even responded !
This was for a stay on 3/11 and today is 3/23 - almost 2 weeks after, so they had plenty of time to respond and I waited to hear back before even...
Read moreJust came back from my wedding weekend at the Latchis theatre and hotel and I am filled to the brim with gratitude. I could not have chosen a better venue space to host my wedding. The hotel is so fun, the vintage feel of the rooms transports guests back to an era of time that would otherwise be lost. The terrazzo flooring is beautiful, the original windows throughout the building are stunning, and I loved how each room was slightly different from each other in theme, decor, and overall space. The suites are absolutely HUGE. The views are incredible. Staff was MORE THAN accommodating. The hospitality of everyone involved was more than I could’ve ever dreamed of. Huge shout out to Amy and Makayla for making my wedding literally perfect and for EVERYTHING you did to help my mom and I. Without your vision, our ceremony would not have been so perfect. John for all of his kind words and access to such amazing spaces. He knows all of the history surrounding Latchis and his dedication to the theater spaces and the entire building does not go unnoticed. Huge thank you to ALL OF the theater staff! Milo and the entire crew at the connected bar and restaurant, Sages. I could go on and on. Located right in downtown Brattleboro, this space could easily turn into one of the most exciting wedding venues in the city. It has everything you need all in one and our guests were blown away by how nice everyone working in this building was. I could easily see how devoted the staff is to this historical space and I will never forget how much love I felt the entire weekend to not only be surrounded by my own friends and family but by such dedicated staff that worked tirelessly to make my wedding as wonderful as it was. Thank you Latchis for EVERYTHING. I have an immense amount of gratitude...
