The best Mexican food we've found in the area. I'm from San Antonio and my wife is from East L.A. So, no strangers to authentic Mexican food.
We have lived in the Diamond Bar/Walnut area for 40-years. We've eaten at De Oro many times, tried many different menu items, and we have never been disappointed.
I realize people have different tastes in food, different expectations, and different experiences when dining out. I feel bad for the folks who had a disappointing experience at De Oro.
The staff is always friendly towards us and if they are busy and running slow, they apologize to us and bring us more tortilla chips.
We know if there are a lot of customers or if they have a lot of to-go orders, it's going to take more time than usual. We are old and retired, but not everyone has the time or patience to wait and they leave a negative review.
We have tried many Mexican restaurants in the area. I won't mention the ones we didn't like because, it's a matter of personal taste.
Xavi's in Chino Hills was my favorite, but I haven't eaten there since before the pandemic. I expect they are still great. Pepe's in Hacienda Heights, The Durango in Brea (they didn't survive the 2020 shut down), the big Juancho's restaurant in Ontario (I don't know if they are still there), the small Juancho's cafe in Chino Hills is good for a quick take-out (they used to be better before Covid and they had to remove the "help yourself" bean pot), The Whole Enchilada in Diamond Bar before the demographics changed causing them to shut down, and Kalaveras. I can't be sure if it's the food I like or the atmosphere. I always have fun no matter which one I eat at, but I particularly like the small hole-in-the-wall one in Montebello.
If anyone knows a better place in the area for Mexican food, I'd...
Read moreOkay so my bf and I USED TO be regular customers when we first moved here. We live right behind this place! The food is okay, some stuff is pretty good...but it is NOT as authentic as people say. --- My bf is Mexican, and was raised by his grandmother from Mexico. I am not Mexican...but we both have definitely had more authetic Mexican food for 1/2 the price. This place NEEDS competition. They're ripping people off. That's why we don't go here anymore. They're SO stingy with rice and beans! Do they think we're stupid? I know how much rice and beans cost....it's not something to be stingy with (esp when the beans have no special flavor). --- They kept changing the prices on us!!! For example...we used to like to getting a container of rice and beans sometimes. It used to be $6 for rice & beans. Then it jumped to $10 and the portion size shrunk a LOT. For literally 1 tiny cup of rice & 1 tiny cup of beans......$5 bux each for a TINY side? NOOOPE. --- All i know is we would end up spending almost $30 for 2 enchilada plates, stale chips, tiny amounts of rice and beans, and ONE tiny salsa container. The place we used to go to had a salsa bar...and you could take home as much as you want! And that place was $7-8 bux per enchilada plate...not over $10! --- Their breakfast burritos are super basic, not that big, but they're $10 each also! That's it. We're not idiots. The ingredients used are just like every other Mexican place...probably cheaper. So why is everything...
Read moreIf you live in or around Brea and you're a fan of Mexican food, this is a place you can't pass up. The only issue I've had so far is finding it initially. As soon as you locate it, though, you won't want to forget it!
The atmosphere inside is actually pretty nice. The seating is arranged in a way that you never feel cramped or crowded, making the whole experience that much more comfortable. But the real star here is the food.
It's one of the few places I've eaten at where you could tape the menu to a dart board, this a dart anywhere, and land on something that'll taste good. The standout item in my mind is their nacho fries. Is as good as it sounds: meat, cheese, guac, sour cream, and veggies on fries.
That could be a meal on its own, but the rest of the items are fantastic. The last time I was there I ordered the pork taquitos, and I don't think I've ever had taquitos of that quality before. They were really crispy on the outside, with a generous portion of meat on the inside that wasn't drowned out by the fact it was deep fried.
All in all, a really awesome place to check out and will worth the time if you're a fan of...
