On the Hook is an absolute gem for seafood enthusiasts, and my dining experience here was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment I walked in, the inviting ambiance set the stage for a culinary journey that left me in awe. Here's a breakdown of the dishes that stood out:
Live Oysters: Freshness takes center stage with the Live Oysters. Served on a bed of ice, each oyster was a pristine taste of the sea. The briny burst and creamy texture were unparalleled, leaving me craving for more.
Clam Chowder: The Clam Chowder was a bowl of pure comfort. Rich, creamy, and generously loaded with clams and potatoes, it was a hearty delight that warmed my soul. The flavours were perfectly balanced, making it an instant favourite.
Garlic & Cheese Flat Bread: The Garlic & Cheese Flat Bread was a wonderful starter. The crispy yet fluffy bread, generously topped with garlic and gooey cheese, was a perfect prelude to the seafood feast that followed.
Fish and Chips: The Fish and Chips were a true testament to On the Hook's commitment to quality. The batter was light and crispy, revealing perfectly cooked, flaky fish inside. Paired with golden fries, it was a classic done to perfection.
Jambalaya: The Jambalaya was a flavour explosion! The blend of spices, perfectly cooked rice, and an abundance of shrimp and sausage created a dish that transported me straight to the heart of Louisiana. A must-try for those who enjoy a bit of heat.
Seafood Boil with Corn, Shrimp, Crawfish: The Seafood Boil was a spectacle of flavors. The medley of corn, shrimp, and crawfish soaked in the house blend of spices created a party in my mouth. Messy, delicious, and absolutely worth every finger-licking moment.
Thai Iced Tea: The Thai Iced Tea was a refreshing companion to the bold flavours of the seafood. Its sweetness and hint of spices provided the perfect contrast, leaving my palate cleansed and ready for the next bite.
Cold Vietnamese Coffee: To cap off the meal, the Cold Vietnamese Coffee was a revelation. Smooth, strong, and sweetened just right, it was a delightful conclusion to an unforgettable dining experience.
In addition to the outstanding cuisine, the service was impeccable. The staff was knowledgeable, attentive, and genuinely passionate about ensuring each guest had a memorable time. On the Hook has undoubtedly secured a spot as my go-to seafood and grill restaurant. I can't wait to return for another...
ย ย ย Read moreThis review is exclusively for their Beignets and their Take-out I will hopefully write a review on some of their drinks, appetizers, and entrees once I make my way back here (Which I am making it a priority now because of how good the Beignets were).
Lets start with the location. On the Hook is located in a ginormous plaza that houses a variety of stores, restaurants, and fast food joints. Stores like Home Depot, Ross, Burlington Coat Factory, and Petsmart are the closest ones to it. It is extremely easy to miss this restaurant just because of the sheer size of the plaza as well as the positioning of the store. It sits on an island that essentially separates the plaza into twos. It's easy to miss but easy to find if you turn into the plaza in the entrance where Jimboy's Taco is at and On The Hook is directly across from Jimboy's, sitting next to Flame Broiler. Parking can be hard during peak hours just because of the density of restaurants in that area.
Lets get to the review of the restaurant itself. From the outside, and heck, even the inside, this restaurant looks pretty small. There is a handful of tables that looks to only be able to accommodate about 30-40 people. The interior decoration is nice and rustic, with decorations and a theme that makes me feel like I am near a pier of the ocean.
The staff were very quick and attentive to my party even though we came for just Beignets and a Thai Tea (Which I am surprised that they have and was actually extremely good). The Beignets were beautifully made and the Thai tea was huge and a perfect blend of sweet, tea, and creamer.
Like I said before, I will include an edit below when I do end up coming back when I come for their food....
ย ย ย Read moreYour breath will stink but get the GARLIC NOODLES!
My friend and I were searching for a place to grab a late lunch in Brea and so we decided to check out this place for some delicious Cajun food. Like Boiling Crab and other similar establishments, On the Hook serves seafood by the pound (shrimp, clams, crabs, crawfish, etc) but the the difference is they also have some really good entrees and appetizers where you don't have to get your hands dirty. Since we weren't exactly starving we decided to share the following:
-Garlic noodles $8.99 (you can chose veggies and chicken for +$1.50, beef, shrimp or sausage for +$2 or clams for +$3) we opted to add shrimp and sausage -Cajun fries $3.99 -Blueberry lemonade $4.25 -Draft Beer $6-$8
The portion sizes are really big so just one entree and one appetizer was already pretty filling. The garlic noodles were flavorful and I would definitely go back and order this again. The blueberry lemonade was refreshing and it had actual blueberries inside! It came in a cute mason jar and they don't skimp on the blueberries!
The waitress also mentioned their awesome happy hour menu. Happy Hour M-F (5pm - 7pm) -50% off bottled beers -50% off wine -$2 off draft beers -$1 oysters
The best part is they also incorporated the cool sizzling foam soap at the end of the meal so you can wash your hands and clean up without having to head to...
