Some of the best croissants I've ever had. Even just the classic croissant is really good. The dough is light like it should be, but still has a lot of body and chew to it. It's also just salty enough; I find a lot of upscale bakeries don't put nearly enough salt in their croissants.
The ham and cheese croissant is absolutely incredible. Salty croissant dough with gooey, chewy cheese and tangy whole-grain mustard. This is probably my favorite item from their menu.
My next favorite is probably the almond croissant. It's that same delicious dough but stuffed and topped with almond cream and sliced almonds. It never occurred to me that an almond croissant could actually be stuffed. It's so good and not too sweet.
The baguette is also really good: chewy and hearty, great with some butter or olive oil. And both their sweet and savory scones were tasty, but certainly their croissant-based offerings are the best.
There was a very short line when I arrived around 7:45 am on a Sunday. It grew to maybe 20 people just as they opened at 8:00. I'd recommend arriving early for the...
Read moreIt was a pass through stop on a road trip and we couldn't have randomly parked in a better place! A small crowd of very excited people gathered in the doorway as we got out of the car. I could see a small bakery cabinet so we curiously entered. OMG... THE BEST most beautiful goods I have seen since forever. Since maybe culinary school. STUNNING! Even better than that, they were DELICIOUS! We bought at least one of everything, at a very fair price. My friend LOVED the berry and the chocolate pastries. I LOVED the almond one the most and our eyes popped out of our heads over the incredible height of the croissants. BTW the height was true and proper flaky buttery croissant, not air and was such a joy to eat. We got there around 1p on a Saturday and it seemed they were still baking small batches of the 4 offerings in the case. The owner was working the counter too, you can tell he is passionate about what he does. It was quick service, a fun convo and an impressive spot to add to my RETURN HERE list. BTW... grab an "extra" pastry and a napkin for the ride home... you'll be...
Read moreI had serious hopes but tempered them, expecting to be underwhelmed like i was when i was told "I had to try Bakery Nouveau ". Wahwahwaaaaa We selected 6 different items from the roughly 8 that were offered, an assortment of both sweet and savory - including the quiche of the day. When I inquired if it was always the same offering, i was informed not only does it change daily, but throughout the day other things are added.
I could not fault anything. The quiche was fresh, creamy yet light, and sophisticated with fresh herb. Perfectly balanced. The lemon ginger scone was impeccable. Mild and also perfectly balanced...light, yet full of "just enough" of each flavor to be aromatic. Just enough sweetness to be a scone and not someone's muffin. The custard in the sweeter pastries is a true custard and not the American pudding style pretender. The pastry chef is genius and the flavors are so on point, just close your eyes and savor right!! Ok..the best, bar none, I've ever had in the states. Saboteur is in a different league. Like,...
