My hubby was given a gift card to the Boat Shed Restaurant for his birthday, and last night we decided to use it.
I like the Boat Shed because it's located on the water and the views are remarkable! The restaurant is slightly antiquated with a rustic charm, and from what I have read, it started as a bait shop at some point in the 1970s. During the summertime, people can sit outside on their dock and enjoy their meal; I believe I saw the ability for boats to tie up there as well!
We lucked out and were able to get seating with a lovely view of their Puget sound, although I have to say most, if not all, seating in the restaurant has a pretty decent viewing ability.
Their menu offers a pretty decent selection of food, everything from steaks to pasta, and I can't forget wines, beers, and desserts! Although the Boat Shed is considered casual dining, some food items could be "fine" dining cuisine.
We ordered an appetizer first, steamed Manila clams, and it came with a small loaf of bread. Before I get to our meals, let me tell you the BEST steamed clams I have ever eaten. I was pretty full because I sat there and ate a good portion of the broth that the clams came in it was like eating a soup; I only regretted that we had a single serving of those clams, and my hubby polished off 75% of them =( Would I recommend the steamed clams? Oh yes, I would for sure!!
We both had fish and chips, the difference was I had cajun seasoning, and my hubby stuck with traditional. The meal came with two decent size pieces of fish, a slew of french fries, and a tiny little cup of coleslaw. Although not tasting much cajun seasoning, the fish was fresh and tasty, french fries good, but a little too salty for my taste and the coleslaw not as good; I chuck it up to being very picky on my slaw, besides those clams totally made up for those fries and coleslaw ;)
Our server Ryan (163), was friendly, attentive, accommodating, and a charming girl overall. I love the ability to call out excellent servers. Their job can be excruciating at times, not only dealing with getting orders correct but handling demanding and difficult customers and sometimes taking on more tables, especially if another server doesn't show or calls out. So, two thumbs up to you, Ryan, thanks for doing an awesome job!
Boat Shed's location is at 101 Shore Drive, Bremerton, Washington. Their location can be problematic coming and going; there's one way in, and it is the same way when you leave; think of it as a single lane for both coming and leaving traffic. Another twist is parking; that can be a challenge; they offer a few spaces facing one way at an angle on a hill (like when you're arriving at the restaurant, the left side is angle parking, and the right side is a concrete wall). Still, when you want to leave, there is no place to turn around; you have to play the game of backing up, turning your wheel, pulling forward, turning your wheel and repeat, OR take the chance of backing up the hill all the way out and hope for no other traffic coming. But, don't let that stop you from dining here, just go in to it knowing it's a little bit of a challenge!
"Dining here is another great way to support a locally own small business, if for no other reason go for those clams, you...

Full event below.
Restaurant was to close at 9pm on Monday. We showed up with a party of 5 at 7:52 knowing many places around were closed this was one of a few options. Before I say all the not good things, we have been there before at lunch. Great service, timing and good food for the price and location. Location is beautiful, right on the water.
Okay, bad stuff..... Like I said, arrived at 7:52, hour before they say they close. Long story, we ordered everything at the same time, placed in the bar tables. Clearly, they were shutting down an hour before they are to close.
What should have happened if you are running a 4 to 5 star place is water brought as you are greeted by the server. Bar tender dude comes and says water is on the way. Great! Love that! Some places might not even give water, unless asked.
We give the order for drinks and dinner. Because it is Monday, and 7:55pm.
Because I just worked a long day, I really wanted water... 10 minutes later he brings all the drinks.
There was salads ordered. When should a salad come? Well. Never if you come at that time.
Bar tender is MIA for a good 25 minutes.
(side bar, we should have just left and gone to the Thai restaurant up the street) Next time!!!!!!!!!!!
Food was warmish, because we waited 39 minutes for it and there was only two tables (because there was 2 tables). And we were missing a plate. The bartender/ server said oh, I could not put it all on one tray. IT was 6 minutes later some busser girl showed up with the fish and chips. OH sorry the fish is over cooked you can eat the fries. they are making 2 more for you. So everyone has a warm plate, except for one guy that had to wait 6 minutes for something he isn't going to eat. Meanwhile, where is the salad? And the Bar tender was MIA.
I got super mad. I took that over cooked fish and cold fries dinner and had no problem walking straight back to the kitchen. NO BODY WAS AROUND????? It was now 8:49. I just tossed it on the freshly cleaned top and said this is no good, do it again. Went out to the front to ask for a manager, Girl who was cleaning the bathrooms at this time!!!! STILL NOT 9:00 PM Said oh the manager is in the bar. NOT WORKING! Been eating with an Amazon boy friend. Still no Bar Tender. UGH!!! Almost done with my rant.....
I asked, she took the fish and chips (which still wasnt like lunch time) off and gave two drinks off the bill.
The food was like Denny's had a fancy friend who had seafood.
I was glad we had some sort of service, but we didnt finish until 9:30. TWO TABLES...... Service was at the bar. eating before we were.
IF THEY ARE DONE AT 8. Lock the doors!!!!!!!
Baby Blond Manager needs to make sure you dont close your doors an hour before you close. Everyone was so busy closing they didnt do the other job that gives them tips and makes the restaurant money!
My parents tipped because they...
Read moreI wish I could give a good rating, but unfortunately I can't. We went here for dinner the day after V day, expected it to busy, but have heard lots of good things so... We were seated in a back area behind a 6 top and 16 top. Crammed in a corner, despite them having 4 tables at the windows that were empty. I wasn't happy but accepted it, until they started to seat those tables right after us with walks in that can right behind us. I was irritated at this point. We ordered, and waited, and waited... I got up to use the restroom while waiting for food and noted that there was another like my self and my husband, interratial, that were also seated in a back corner. Then saw another interracial couple placed on a tiny table shoved against the wall in the walkway with absolutely no way to be comfortable since everyone was constantly walking into them as they came around the corner and staff stood right next to them and talked about whatever. I noted these thing but tried to not make assumptions. When our food FINALLY started to come (25 min) for appetizer, I put some sauce on my rice and immediately had to scoop all of it out and to the side because tasted like there was a whole thing of salt and pepper dumped into it. It was SOOOO salty and peppery neither my husband no I could eat it. When our main course arrived (40 min) I went to dig into my fish and chips only to find that the breeding on the fish was so super saturated with grease that it was oozing out when in tried to cut a bit off the fish, so saturated that the breading was mush. Absolutely inedible. It was a good while before the server showed up again (perhaps because we were hidden in a back corner behind 2 giant tables) , I told her and the first response was "well why didn't you tell me that when I asked you (when she served it, haven't even had time to try the food yet since she just put it down), I told her that and asked if she would just have it remain correctly and pack it to go since we were done with the whole thing. She did so, and did take some off the check for the bad food issue. 2 days later, I got the food out to have for dinner, airfryer crisper it right up and I was so looking forward to it. Took my first bite and discovered they gave me the cagun seasoned fish, not what I order the original fish and chips. SOOOOO disappointed all around, all the money spent on a meal and not only did we feel as though we were being shoved in a corner and hidden but I NEVER GOT TO EAT THE FOOD I ORDERED! Sorry but I will not be spending money there anymore and will be sure to let all friends and other on SM know how horrid an experience...
