My friend's boss recommended Khao Soi to me, she stated that her and her family had some good food from Khao Soi. I was looking forward to trying it, as it was a new place that I could review, plus I love Thai food. 😊
A couple of weeks ago, it was my friend's birthday; after talking with her about trying Khao Soi, she was game, so I took her there for her birthday lunch.
I had challenges getting to the restaurant due to construction work in the immediate area. Still, I managed to get there before my friend and take in the view!
My first opinion was from the outside looking in, "Ok, this is what a lot of people would call a greasy spoon type of restaurant," and my second opinion was, "Oh, great. There's no seating inside. It's cold, and we'll freeze sitting outside."
When she arrived, we walked in and lo and behold, there were four or five small tables right as you walked in, not many choices of seating to choose from, but we headed to the last table, furthest away from the door.
We were kindly greeted and handed water and menus right off. Our server was friendly and helpful!
There were a lot of yummy-sounding dishes, aside from the many different curry dishes, pineapple fried rice was calling my name, or the seafood salad with glass noodles, I had made up my mind the evening before I really wanted pineapple fried rice, and after looking through the menu again and again, the seafood salad was sounding right up my alley. At the end, I decided to get Pad See Ew. Difficult choice, but someone had to make it. 😁 In fact, my friend ordered the identical meal lol. Honestly, I think I changed my mind five or six times!
Pad See Ew comes with wide stir-fried rice noodles, egg, broccoli, and brown sauce with the meat you choose; I chose chicken.
Let me revisit the term greasy spoon. Although our server was great, the floors were a little dirty, and the chairs were mismatched. Nothing in there was aesthetically pleasing—no bells or whistles, just good food! That said, some of my best meals have come from little hole-in-the-wall, greasy spoon, unpretentious restaurants.
We both agreed that our Pad See Ew was delicious, and I will take my hubby there for lunch sometime. After all, he ate my leftovers and really liked it.
You can eat outside and enjoy the weather and the view on the nicer days. Chances are you will likely get a wonderful breeze being that close to the water.
Khao Soi Restaurant is off the Manette Bridge in downtown Manette area, which technically located in Bremerton, WA. It is situated on the street above The Boat Shed restaurant, between 11th Street and Shore Drive, 2003 E. 11th Street, Bremerton, WA. 98310.
Once again, this is the perfect time to support a locally-owned small business while eating delicious food!
Please be kind to ALL living...
Read moreI am all about second chances here. First-time I went here, craving Chicken Pao Tai in a hurry googled and this place had highest review. Went online checked the menu, ordered online. Placed order 5:48. Order would be ready by 6:18pm. I was cutting it close for my daughter had a game. So long story short. I get there 6:02 waited saw a bag by the hostess and waited a few minutes and thought maybe that's mine. Go in was told my order wasn't ready yet another 5 minutes. I want for a minute go back to my car. It's a cute little place not big at all, I can see the hostess and the kitchen from my car window. I wait and I get a text at 6:19 your order is ready for pick up. (PICTURES BELOW) I go in Show the host my text she says ONCE again not ready 5 more minutes. So now I wait 5 minutes inside, getting frustrated for now I will be late to my daughters softball game.
The minute I am to the point of just telling them to cancel my order I finally get my order at 6:39pm. As you can see it looks good, but there was no peanuts not a single peanut that crunch you love in Pao tai, nope none nothing. Over all it was good, but what a disappointment for being a first timer. Don't send me a text telling me it is ready for pick up and make me wait another 20 minutes. And truly they gave two craps or thoughts about it. It literally takes 30-40 minutes tops to make it I have made it at home with home made sauce and everything from soaking noodles the full deal. No reason it should of taken that long and then no peanuts, just...
Read moreSince I discovered Khao Soi about a year ago, I have been back weekly. The food is top tier. I have been on a 5yr quest to find the best Thai between Bremerton and Redmond x Edmonds and Tacoma, Khao Soi is the current winner in my book. If you need a recommendation, ANY of the curries or their namesake dish are delightful. If you're not in the mood for curry, Pineapple Fried Rice, Pad Thai, or Garlic Chicken are all excellent as well. The Tom Ka got me through my wisdom teeth removal, the tea base in their Thai Tea is wonderful, and for appetizers the Fried Tofu or Fried Calamari are great. Enjoy!
BEWARE: They are a SMALL restaurant. Be cognizant of the fact you may not be able to simply walk up and get a table. Over the last year it appears their popularity has more than doubled. While the patio area is lovely, I've opted to order online through their website for the bulk of my visits.
Regarding service, I've never been unhappy. They have been overwhelmed during peak hours and mistakes have happened (see Omar's review), but Khao Soi has always corrected errors and apologized when I brought the errors to their attention. I have experienced 3 issues in approximately 50 visits ¯(ツ)/¯ c'est la vie. Keep it up Khao Soi, we...
