Update: my husband and I were so impressed on our previous visit we invited four friends who have never been here, to accompany us. They all said their food was delicious. The service was great as well. The only issue we had, was everyone received their meal except one person. Somehow the server forgot to put the last order in, or the chef forgot to make it. Once they seen that one of the guests had no meal and asked when it was coming they quickly put in the order. They said they would give a complimentary desert, but they never did. Although it was annoying, it wasn't a deal breaker. And they did fix the mistake very quickly.
Previous review: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Ever since the Olive garden went downhill, and Johnny Carino's disappeared I have been trying to find a good Italian restaurant. I have tried a few small places here and there but have not thought they were great. I have actually tried Chianti's in the past but forgot about them because they moved. My family and I went yesterday, we were really wanting a nice pasta. Wow just wow! I would have given this nine Stars out of 10 if it would allow me. First off the bad, I like to give bad news first. We sat down at our table and we were not overly impressed with the ambience. It just looked like any other restaurant inside. And it didn't look very clean. The waiter seated us next to the restrooms in a very empty restaurant. He did ask if we had a reservation, which I replied no, so maybe those other ones were reserved tables. For that reason I cannot complain too much. But what annoyed me was when we arrived at our table there were already dishes set. The problem was, the small bread plates, the forks, knives, and the water glasses were very dirty. I asked the host/waiter if those were used and he told me no. As soon as we sat down we saw smeared looking butter marks on the plates as well as crusted food on the mouth area of the cups. These look like they were never cleaned, if they were not in fact another couples dishes. The waiter promptly removed them and brought us clean dishes. Now the good news, out of everything we ordered everything was excellent. Normally when I go to a restaurant, I have a hard time finding something that looks good to me. At this restaurant, I had a difficult time finding something that didn't look appetizing. We ordered the clams as an appetizer and they were delicious. My husband and son love calamari. They both said this was the best they had ever had. My husband said it tasted like fresh calamari, that popped in his mouth. The dishes that we ordered are excellent. My husband ordered the Cioppino. It was delicious and full of fresh seafood. I ordered the Frutti Di Mare, which was amazing. I haven't gotten excited over a restaurant meal in years. My pasta was cooked well and none of the seafood was overcooked. And a bonus, the shrimp were actually cleaned. My son ordered the Calamari Steak. Now it wasn't a bad dish but he is a kid so it was a bit too grown up for him. He loves calamari but the lemon butter sauce was not to his liking. He had also ordered it without any vegetables and when it was brought it had capers and onion on it. They took it back and said they would make him a new one but all they did was scrape the stuff off and break his calamari in the process. I'm not too upset about that but they ended up removing part of his breading, that is a bit of an issue. Not enough to never return though. Their bread although very little for a table, was very tasty. If there dining room reflected their food, this would be a Michelin star restaurant. I really feel that how busy this place could be, they need to have a larger location. So far this is the best restaurant around. I have not found a better restaurant in Oakley, Antioch, Pittsburg, Martinez or Concord. I'm even thinking Walnut Creek. This is my family's new favorite restaurant. We will be telling all of our friends and family about it just like I'm...
Read moreI went 2 months ago and my dish was not great, (the people with me liked theirs) ....plus, I have really liked their fancy meat and seafood dishes in the past, this pasta dish was just plain and weird and I left most of it. ...and the person serving us had a poopy attitude in the middle of dinner.
(There are like 3 tables including us....maybe 4 tables..maybe... it was hauntingly empty.....)
Maybe they felt like they were in the weeds or felt short staffed or felt they shouldn't be getting us the bread and dip or they just wanted us to stop asking for things all at once....and thus they made sure to let us know, with what to me was a hella rude statement, but to some maybe it was just voicing their stress..
well we all chose to ignore it and kept being friendly to the person....but I had to cringe when it came time to ask for another drink. I asked their name to put in review, I was that disturbed but not worth it if they had a bad day or really were overworked...
The rest of the night was fine and the person kept very working hard and was trying to be friendly too..despite that comment..
. I won't go back tho if that...
Read moreThis visit was a Saturday before Valentines Day so fully sold out and busy. The maitre d', possibly the owner, didn't seem that happy to see us and never cracked a smile the whole evening. Just an unhappy person I guess but he seemed out of place in the food and hospitality business. Service was understandably a little slow due to the full restaurant. Lunch the previous day was fine when a little quieter. We brought our own wine on this occasion and were happy to pay the $15 corkage. The menu is not large but has all the good choices one would look for in an Italian restaurant. The range is $28 to $35 for entrees so fairly typical in a nicer restaurant in the area. Presentation on the plate could have been a little better but the food was delicious. We finished with the limoncello cake desert which, when previously served, had actual limoncello floating on the plate. This was dry so a bit of a disappointment. Would we go again, yes. We travel the world visiting restaurants so we are perhaps more critical than some others might be. There aren't a whole lot of choices for fine dining in Brentwood and this one ranks in the top...
