I'm not a big fan of these "combo" restaurants (Chinese and Japanese) as I my belief a restaurant should concentrate on a cuisine they do best. But, Mikado is an exception; they got it right.
Mikado offers a good blend of Japanese and Chinese food. Granted they're not a perfect 10 for both cuisine, but they're very good with both worlds. This place does get packed and for good reasons.
Their Chinese food, don't expect Koi's Palace quality but then again you don't pay those prices. They're food comes out pipping hot and you can see the Chef is obviously showing off his wok skills. One of my favorite is their garlic fried rice. It adds a new taste dimension to a common dish. Their mini Bok Choy with garlic sauce and Peking Pork Chops are excellent comfort food and Mikado knows how to make them.
Their other world is an interesting experience. Weekdays are fine for your everyday sushi fix, but for a true Japanese adventurous experience you have to go there on the weekend. The sushi rice was lacking the sushi rice vinegar but the fish are fresh and presented nicely.
Staff here are top notch and not something you would expect from a small bistro. They frequently check up on you and there were times when we mentioned the food was a bit salty and they automatically took it back and had another one made. For their sushi (unless you like what's in their menu)I suggest you let them make the recommendations. They're honest about what's fresh and...

First the closest to consumable was the chow fun. All it had was just beef in it when I ordered house chow fun which should be a combination dish. Also it had lots of undercooked onions which were inedible. Noodles beef and onions, that's it for "House Chow Fun"??
The "Peking spareribs" were horribly over cooked thin slices of porkchops as you can see in the photo... With a hideous sweet sauce on it. I sincerely mean it when I say it tasted like I imagine cardboard with terrible sauce would.
Even worse was the Salt and pepper calamari (which I order everywhere it is available)... It was battered (mushy and falling off) which the menu doesn't describe but worst of all it was thick rubbery slabs of Calamari with somewhere between zero to nasty flavor. This was totally inedible, I spit my only bite out, ues, really that bad... Not sure my big dog will even touch it.
Quite simply, this was far and away an insult to Chinese food everywhere. They really shouldn't be allowed to sell it....
By the time DD delivered the three dishes of cold food it cost me $75.00... In which only a tiny bit over a third of it could be eaten.
I got nothing against the place other than a very expensive and offensive meal. I would rate it a minus 5 stars...
Read moreOkay so, I’ve already been meaning to leave a review on this place. I started going to this place like last year, and I’ve always had an amazing experience. But today, tonight, tonight was the best experience I’ve had there. There was this waiter, Ansho (I think), but he was so kind and he was so amazing. And the lady that I always see there, (I don’t know her name I’m apologize), had such good energy and tonight was just magical for me. It was a hard day, hard week, and I was so done. But that waiter, was the absolute best and I felt so happy, it brightened my whole week and night. He was so amazing, he did a Happy Birthday and everything for this one group in the back, I found it so cool. They were so happy while doing it too, like they love their job, and it made me really happy. The other waiter that worked with him was named Raf or Rafael (I THINK I THINK DON’T COME AT ME), and he was so kind too. I really recommend this place, they’re amazing and so very kind, even though I can’t come all the time, I wish I could. Looking forward to visiting again!! YOU GUYS ARE...
