I live year round in Brewster, close to this restaurant. I've tried the same menu items multiple times so I have a good idea of what to expect. Overall, Stone L'oven tries too hard being eccentric and unfortunately misses the mark. I give two stars because overall pizza/italian is usually always good and hard to mess up. Bar service is generally sub-par and the bar atmosphere is not lively. The rest of the restaurant has a nice atmosphere. Prices are steep considering the food quality. Multiple reviewers also feel that the prices are too high. Mangement comments that this is because "they collect only the highest quality ingredients from around the world" are disingenuous. If you look at the same menu items at their other two locations, the prices there are substantially lower.
Here is my review of some of their menu items
Wings: taste good but like most things here, are overpriced. You can tell they are 'cheap' wings based on how brittle and dry the bones are. Sauces are good. Lemon flavor is incredibly underwhelming.
Tree hugger pizza: mostly flavorless. It really needs a cheese like feta to bring out the veggies. You need to eat this pizza with a fork because it is ALWAYS soggy due to high water content of all the vegetables.
Chicken Pesto: a good pizza. the addition of red peppers throws the flavor combo off for me. Again, I feel like the addition of a cheese like feta or gorgonzola is needed to perfect this one.
Buffalo chicken pizza: meh. the chicken is just chopped up grilled chicken cubes with hot sauce drizzled all over it. It would be much better with actual breaded buffalo chicken pieces.
Barbeque chicken pizza: the best pizza they have, no complaints.
Fig and Prosciutto pizza: farrrrr too sweet, couldnt even eat it. Definitly missing a fresh vegetable element.
Bacon and Sweet Potato pizza: the sweet potatos are so mushy and bland. they should be maple glazed or seasoned to compliment the saltiness of the bacon.
The Special pizza: good.
Meat lovers pizza: the addition of meatballs puts this one on the slighly soggy side
Pasta dishes: far too over priced for me...
Read moreWe had a great dinner with our teen at Stone L'Oven Pizza, in Brewster, Mass. It's a clean and spacious eatery with plenty of parking. We were seated right away in a nice booth and were waited on within a minute. The drink menu had plenty of options: many types of beers, various red and white wines, and dozens of cocktails, many of which sounded delicious. Non-alcoholic drinks as well. The menu has plenty also, from wings, to quesadillas, to salads, to sandwiches, etc. The pizza options were endless, with so many yummy toppings offered. We ordered wings and quesadillas for appetizers, both of which were excellent. The wings were as large, meaty, and tasty as we've ever had. The quesadillas were great too: sufficient chicken and cheese, and somehow lighter than typical quesadillas. I wonder if they use a blend of cheese to achieve the flavor and lightness. Then came our pizza, hot with a crispy, light crust that was super close to the amazing pizza we ate in Italy! Our waitress asked all the right questions, gave descriptions and suggestions, and checked in periodically to ask about drink refills, etc. The Owner of Stone L'Oven Pizza even came out and chatted. He clearly knows the art and science of creating fantastic pizza, serves quality food overall, and teaches his employees the value of hospitality. Bravo! We will definitely...
Read moreThe food was great, some of the best pizza I’ve ever had. Unfortunately, upon ordering a 2nd time we found out that the Gluten-Free pizza crust contains soybean oil and was served to my wife who has a gluten and soy allergy. She was violently ill after dinner but we weren’t sure what caused it. Just a fair warning to anyone who has an allergy to be careful and make sure to keep an EPI Pen ready!
Edit for some clarification I appreciate the response. Just wanted to clarify, we went to your restaurant and informed our server of the gluten and soy allergy and they confirmed with the kitchen and told us that there wouldn’t be any issues. My wife became violently ill that night after getting home but weren’t sure what the cause was. Upon ordering a second time for take-out, that was when we were informed by the manager of the soybean oil in the gluten-free crust AND the salad dressing that she was served as well the first time we went. Understanding the importance of informing the staff, and how severe her allergies are, we did inform our server who told us that everything we ordered was safe. Again, it wasn’t until we ordered a second time a manager informed us of the ingredients...
