Edit: Heard this place is for sale! That's great news, maybe the next owner will be less like the current one. Can't really get any worse.
Two years ago: What a rude owner. She took a one sentence suggestion to improve communication as an attack on how she runs her business, and "bashing" them. I can only imagine what happens if they mess up your order.
Our three year old had a fantastic morning so we decided to reward her with her favorite pastries. Given the widespread staffing issues and burnout, we checked their site first to make sure that they were open.
"FALL HOURS (Effective September 4, 2022)
Saturday and Sunday 8am to 1pm"
Well it's Sunday morning and after Sept 4th, so we're good! We pack up our daughter and make the 30 minute round trip with a happy and excited kiddo.
We arrive there and see a note on the door that they're closed for a planned break. Wow, that's not cool. The break is cool, but not letting people know on your site isn't. So now we turn around with an upset kiddo.
I look them up on IG, and reply to their latest post that they should update their website with the closure. That's it.
I get an argumentative reply that their site is up to date and "comments like mine" are why they need a break. What? There's nothing saying they're closed and I just said that I wish they'd update their site. 🤯
Then I get a sarcastic / snarky response that their voicemail says that they're closed and they've been doing this for 7 years, and they hope it wasn't too much trouble coming all the way from Chatham. I never said anything about Chatham...so they went through my post history on IG. Not creepy at all.
I just checked now and they actually deleted my reply altogether, which further underscores their utter lack of emotional intelligence. Why argue with a customer who is right and is a fan of your stuff? Don't expect people to exhaust all forms of contact to make sure that you're open.
An emotionally mature response could have been, "Sorry you made the trip out here. We'll update the site with our closure and hope to see your family again soon!"
Whatever,...
Read moreWe have been going to Eat Cake 4 Breakfast since it was in its previous location on the rail trail. Big fan of what Danielle built and what Tara, Tori and TJ have maintained. Brewster is lucky to have a wonderful bakery, and I very much appreciate the new espresso machine. The iced vanilla lattes are a significant upgrade and beat anything in the area. Also i appreciate the asiago turkey pastry having more than just a hint of meat. Danielle used the meat as flavoring and while a personal preference, I prefer that the pastry is now more substantial.
I have a couple small things to lobby for. I love the overall experience. These things seem like things that may be low effort, decent reward.
The expansion of the coffee orders has created some chaos around the checkout area. Again, I 100% support the move to have better coffee, but i wonder if there is a way to separate out the waiting line a little further, at least during peak summer season.
The pistachio and almond pastries seem squished flat. I believe you might be able to stack them at angle to keep them a little more airy.
I love the tiffany blue decor and the tshirt selection was nice this season! Look forward to buying many a coffee and bun...
Read moreEatCake4Breakfast is only open on weekends this season and is one more reason to look forward to the weekend! The past four visits I have branched out trying other pastries there.
Off-season is the best, in and out with the goodies. But don't be afraid of a long line at "ec4b" during summer, it moves quickly. And try to look ahead at the treats behind the glass before you get to that spot because the number of items can be overwhelming and the people behind you want their breakfast too! I looked at the menu online to get a head start on my selections. Each item is truly a taste of Europe. I went with a big appetite and picked the "Nest Eggs" (egg with bacon pieces croissant), "Brewster Bun" and to finish, "Pain au Chocolat"! Yes, I ate all 3 for breakfast. (Lunch was salad.) It was amazing. One of my companions had a Pistachio Croissant and wished they had bought 2. There are gluten-free items, but call the day before to order. Savior the moment, don't rush eating these Delights. Why did I show the inside of the Brewster? Because you're looking at a melt-in-your-mouth pastry you have to...
