The staff is lovely, personable, and kind. İ can't say much for the food or the handling of our evening. We were squeezed in on a night where they had two very large parties (40 and 20 people) so this could have been the culprit of our experience. We ordered two drinks. 20 minutes later, they came with an apology that there is a new bartender. The wine was lovely. The old fashioned was great if you just wanted whiskey with an orange wedge stuck in it. We think they forgot the simple syrup. We order the food. We wait 40 minutes. The entrees come. We tell them we haven't gotten our appetizers. They ask if we want them as they place the entrees on the table. We cancel said apps. We try to order a glass of wine with the food. İt never comes and meals are finished so we cancel wine. They offer it anyways for free but the whole point was wine with food, not to just drink. 1/4 entrees were good. The elk was lovely, well seasoned and medium rare. My scallops "entree" looked like an appetizer. İ was told that indeed it was the entree because it has four scallops (app has two). One would think if you offer both, the entree would have more than two tablespoons of risotto (like an app) under the scallops. The flavor of the meal was also not cohesive: is sweet sauce on top, bland risotto, green beans thrown around the outside. My partner's meal had a very generous portion of risotto, which added to the oddity given the description of the veal was supposed to come with potatoes, not risotto and snap peas. One of the two loins was completely gray. The crab cake was bland. To say sorry for this endeavor, we got four glasses of free champagne. Two of us don't drink champagne (İ know, that in itself is strange). We finished everything because we were hungry (no apps and it had been an hour) and it wasn't awful, it just wasn't worth the cost. My father really loves ending a meal with dessert and coffee. One of us, at this point, had already headed to the car. We wanted to leave but he really wanted his coffee and sweet. So, we order coffee and two desserts and ask about timing to make sure it will come quickly. They ensure us it will and it did. The creme brulee was lovely. The strawberry rhubarb crumble was just sugar and goo. For all this, nothing was comped. We got four free glasses of champagne and ended up paying about 300 for 2 drinks, four entrees (one was actually an app as a meal), and two desserts that took two hours. Luckily, the ambiance was nice and we enjoyed the company so the wait could have been worse. They had also given us a carafe of water so we hydrated and talked while we waited. Everyone with whom we spoke was so nice so, while we will not try it again, we hope our experience was due to the large parties and that on other nights, they know how to make good food and drinks. We went to the Ocean House the next night and i had a full plate of rice with my scallops for the same price. İf you're going to pay 50 dollars per plate, it...
Read moreDO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY or EXPERIENCE at THIS RESTAURANT…We had the worst dinner experience this past Saturday at Chillingsworth Bistro and Tavern in Brewster. It was my birthday and my husband made reservations for a party of 6. We had last been there during Covid and the food at that time was fair but we chalked it up to Covid. The waiter was a man who said he worked there for 13 years. We all ordered appetizers, I had tuna tartare which was just ok. Moving onto dinner: 2 people in my party had the angel hair pasta with lobster in a creamy base ($41)- there was 1 piece of lobster in the dish, when the people in my party told the waiter, the waiter took the dish and came back with it and said the amount is preportioned to have 6 oz of lobster and basically dropped the bowl back down in front of them without any changes to it. I looked at it There Was No Lobster!!!!!!! I had the special which was filet of sole in a tomato base with some kind of pasta beneath it. The Sole was rolled up(1 piece) The inside was totally uncooked, asked the waiter to come over and look and he said it was flakey ( the waiter had an answer to everything to try to shut us up) my father-in-law had the duck which came out once again undercooked and tasteless!!! With all these complaints brought up to the waiter never once did the manager come over. The bill was over $475.00!!!!!! I called the restaurant when I came home and spoke to the manager Julie, she was nothing more than unconcerned and said she knew about our complaints ( but never came over). I said we were so very disappointed over this entire meal and what can she do for us and she replied we can’t do anything….. What????? I said at least return a portion of our money in which she replied I’ll ask the owner and get back to you on Tuesday. Tuesday evening I received noooo phone call so I called her and she had an answer that someone at our table said something derogatory (of course the meal was subpar)and she would do absolutely nothing for us and we should part ways. Unfortunately we didn’t see all the negative reviews before going to this restaurant or we never would have. So please think twice before spending your money or evening there. I would have expected a phone call from the Owner (McDonald’s would have been a better experience than this. Long winded...
Read moreWe've lived in Brewster almost 10 years yet had never been, having been misinformed that it was the priciest restaurant in town -- also constantly packed, so they clearly weren't hurting for our business. But as other faves have become notably more expensive we finally decided to try it in honor of a friend's birthday and my wife's recent one. Unable to get a reservation in the main restaurant we happily settled for the Bistro, which was comfortable and charming; and since the start of the pandemic the need to simplify means it now shares the same menu. Everything was delicious and for the quality and uniqueness a great value. Ice cold cocktails, a small but broad list of by-the-glass wines, an expansive selection of menu items, almost too many dessert options, and again a quite broad list of after dinner libations. My wife, who has spent a lot of time in France, found the snails appetizer to be some of the best she'd ever had, and my gnocchi w/ mushrooms, peas & corn (drenched in butter ... ) was fabulous. I stuck w/ more apps for dinner -- a delicious if a bit overwrought grilled asparagus & avocado "tosti" and a decent buratta w/ heirloom tomatoes; my wife's pork dish was deemed smashing. For dessert a shared trio of mini creme brulees and angel food cake with blueberries and blueberry ice cream. Yum. I wanted to delve into after dinner drinks -- armagnac, yes, please -- but was too full. In the end 3 of us spent what two of us do at other faves in town. Looking forward to returning -- though probably not until the season dies down a bit; even their ample staff was a bit pressed to keep up. Alas, they do close December to May, but that still leaves plenty of...
