I'm always happy to find restaurants catering to vegans...this restaurant has a very large selection. The seating inside is very small and I never see anyone in there; seems they cater mostly for takeout. This has to be the most generous of restaurants when it comes to proportion of mock meat--they do not skimp--which sounds like it would be awesome, but actually it turns out to be the opposite. Most meals are really laden with sugar, salt, and oil--more so than any other restaurant in my memory. If you don't order something that specifically mentions vegetables in the title, don't expect to receive any vegetables. I found the General Tsos to be a lot of fried wheat gluten in a soup of corn syrup with about 4 pieces of broccoli. The pad thai is not pad thai at all but instead a mound of singapore rice noodles saturated in salt with a sprinkling of peanut on top and about 4 strips of carrots buried within. The veg beef and broccoli was okay because it had some vegetables in it. The veg chicken with vegetables is also good. The rainbow ribs are good, but again, so unhealthy, it is hard to eat much of it. The portion is somewhat small (it's an appetizer), but it really will need to be split between two people because they are so rich. There can't be any nutritional value in any of this stuff. Unfortunately, they do not sell side orders of vegetables or noodles to help dilute all the unhealthy mock meats drenched in salty/oily/sugary gravy. Every order also comes with a fried vegetable spring roll which just adds to the guilt, but they are...
Read moreMy initial take on this place was that it was amazing. Great prices for vegan food. A huge selection of Chinese food options for veg options. The last time I went, there ere multiple hairs in my food and there was a cockroach in my miso soup. I'd purchased over 30 dollars worth of food and was disgusted with the sight of a cockroach at the bottom of my soup (yes, I'd eaten just about all of the soup before it was visible). I called the restaurant and told them, the woman basically said I was lying and that if I brought her the remainder of the uneaten soup she would give me another soup. I told her that I was not interested in eating anymore of their food and that I couldn't make it back to the restaurant anyway. I told her that out seemed like the better option would be a refund. She repeated that for a refund I would have to bring the soup back. I explained that her customer service litmus was off and that she should definitely be more understanding and apologetic given the situation. I also told her that the entire meal was ruined and that I would have expected a full refund, not an argument over driving back to her restaurant with a container of soup. She ultimately agreed to a full refund and I figured we would part ways and I would just never go back. Then I got my credit card statement. She only issued a refund for 7 dollars. I will...
Read moreI was very excited for Sentosa. My vegetarian friends highly recommended the menu, as it was promised to be diverse, delicious, and authentic. I began with Hot&Sour soup, and it was the best I had ever tried. Very fresh vegetables, delicious broth. The scallion pancake with sweet hoisin sauce was a real delight. Everybody enjoyed. The peppercorn potato appetizer is highly peppered crinkly wedge potatoes. Basic, but yummy. I shared a chicken & shrimp Pad Thai, and the noodles used were strangely similar to Italian Angel Hair. It was very different than normal Pad Thai. Much lighter, easier to eat without being overwhelmed with flavor- but that's kind of what I'm seeking in Pad Thai- an overwhelming amount of flavor...
Everything was really just okay. The service was virtually non-existent, as my girlfriend had to get up for straws, forks and napkins before the woman at the counter took the hint that we were dining in. The place is primarily a take-out joint from the look and feel of things, but if you do stop in for a bite, be sure to order what you want at the counter, then sit down and wait for it. That seems to be the way service...
