Tacoholics is a popular chain of taco restaurants in New Jersey and Kentucky. They have a casual atmosphere and a menu that is focused on fresh, Mexican-inspired cuisine.
I recently visited the Tacoholics location in Brick Township, NJ and I was disappointed with the food and the service. I ordered the chicken taco and the steak taco, both of which were made with fresh ingredients. It wasn't so much the food that I was disappointed with it was the service. I ordered take out online and order. The Sam guacamole for my daughter. When I got to the restaurant I was startled. There was no guacamole and it asked me if I wanted to be kissed off. I said no, they said they would give me a refund. I said okay, that's OK. Can I get it so I do come in 5 to 10 business days.
I also tried the quesadilla, which was made with a large flour tortilla that was filled with cheese and grilled to perfection. The quesadilla was also very good and it was a great value for the price ($6.99).
The service at Tacoholics was friendly and efficient. Our order came out quickly and our server was always happy to answer our questions.
Overall, I had a great experience at Tacoholics. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the prices were reasonable. I would definitely recommend Tacoholics to anyone looking for a good Mexican meal.
Here are some of the pros and cons of Tacoholics:
Pros:
Fresh, made-to-order food Variety of Mexican dishes to choose from Reasonable prices Friendly and efficient service
Cons:
The restaurant can get crowded, especially on weekends The wait time can be long, especially during peak hours The portions are small, so you might want to order an appetizer or side dish
Overall, I would give Tacoholics a 4 out of 5 stars. It's a great place to go for a casual Mexican meal with...
Read moreThe food was good, but it was nothing special. I ordered a Crack BBQ chicken taco and a Buffalo chicken taco, and I felt that they were both something I could easily make at home. They tasted like cut-up chicken tenders in a flour tortilla with Sweet Baby Rays/Franks Red Hot and shredded iceberg lettuce on top. At $10, I found it to be pretty expensive for what it was. I wouldn't mind paying for food at that price-point if they were doing something that nobody else was, but with so much great local competition (Bubbakoos, Surf Taco, FINS), I don't understand how they can justify charging that much. Furthermore, the scanty portion of chips that came on the side (maybe five or six chips) were awful. They were shiny with grease, dark brown and tasted burnt, and covered in salt. Again, I enjoyed the tacos, don’t get me wrong. They were good and filling; however, they just were not good enough to warrant a trip back. I will keep going to Bubbakoo's for their amazing student special which includes two tacos, chips, and a drink for $6,...
Read moreArrived just before noon and was surprised that we were the only ones there. I've heard good things about Tacoholics since the days when they were ONLY a food truck and have been wanting to try them for some time. I pass them everyday but always before they open. Today was different and I was looking forward to stopping.
Got the Bangin Shrip Tacos. I was disappointed there were only 2 in the serving. It seems to me that 3 Tacos are the more common portion size. The soft taco shells did not seem to be warmed. The salsa and Pico de Gallo were nice and fresh. In spite of being open for almost an hour the fountain drink machine was not on and it was a little sticky. The rest of the place seemed clean though.
Overall it was satisfactory. I might go again if it is convenient but I wouldn't go out of my way to get there.
Also, my wife was very disappointed there were no carnitas. It's a common taco choice that was not offered. No...
