East Main Fish & Chips — Restaurant in Bridgeport

I have gone here for decades back when it was located on Boston Ave. The owner here is great and has great prices and food. He is efficient and I enjoy coming here.

The reason for the one star rating is due to his employee that has been working for him since being at the Putnam location. He is so negative and just a nasty person. The way he speaks on the phone is not welcoming and it’s even worse in person. He either never wants to wear gloves and gets mad when you ask him to or he is wearing one but touching everything including money with the gloves hand and then is upset when you ask him to put a clean one on because he “already has one on.” I hate when I order and have to deal with him. Today was the last straw! I called in an order for me to pick up. I had my infant baby with me and because there was a person inside looking at the menu ordering, I called in to see if the food was ready. He said it was. I asked him if he can ask the woman if after she places her order to step outside briefly for me to pay and grab my food since it was ready. He gave a non response and hung up. So I waited outside while other customers went inside to order. They stayed inside as well. After waiting fifteen minutes and the baby getting fussy from standing in the same spot, I called again to ask if he could ask them to stand outside so I can pay quickly due to COVID and the baby not being able to wear a mask I didn’t feel comfortable going inside with all the people (I had a mask on). He said well what do you want me to do. I said can you please ask them to step outside since their order was already in and let me grab the food because while I’m waiting here my food is getting cold. He said I can wait until they are finished and I wasn’t opposed to waiting but he continually let more people come inside to place orders and wait inside. So I told him I cannot just stand outside all day while he continues to allow more and more people in so he either asks them to step outside or I will have to leave the food because I’ve been waiting a long while. He didn’t respond so I left. That is the last time I let his negative, nasty energy take space when dealing with me. It’s so unfortunate but if he is still allowed to treat paying customers this way, I refuse to spend another dollar here.

Other people have experienced this with him as well and say they do not like dealing with him and will often hang up and not place an order or not walk inside to place an order if he is the one they have to deal with....

With all the good reviews I at least expected the onion rings to be hand cut not those cheap nasty onion rings you can tell he get his food from a bs place that’s cheap which is the reason why his prices are cheap i guess I got what I paid for I also had flounder and cod fish it wasn’t to my liking so with that being said if your a picky eater like I am I do not recommend you go here I’m not from the area so I went on the reviews I guess everyone on these reviews are only picky about the prices seems like they like the place just because it’s cheap will not return here the next time I...

Definitely a “get what you pay for” spot.. family suggested I try it out I wish I never did.. Once I arrived the look and the location should have been a give away.
