Prior to today, this was my favourite lunch spot in Bridgeport, and I looked forward to making a trip to Winnie's anytime I happened to be in town.
After today, it is unlikely that I will return to this place. They have a large German Shepherd that is very aggressive to other dogs and is not well-trained.
My family placed an online order. My mother, dog, and I walked down to the cafe to pick up our order once it was ready. My mother and her dog were on the sidewalk outside the restaurant when I opened the door to go in and pick up our order. The German Shepherd, that I assume belongs to the owner of Winnie's, came charging out the door the second I opened it and attacked my family's dog. Our dog did not growl or retaliate in any way. He just tried to hide behind my mother to get away from the German Shepherd snarling and lunging at him. The German Shepherd pushed my mother backwards into the middle of the road trying to attack our dog and injured my hand as I was trying to get it away from my family.
The owner came out and got her dog before it could do any really major harm, but it was still a ridiculous situation. If there had been oncoming traffic, my mother would have been hit by a car. I now have to cancel/rearrange my own activities to account for my injured hand.
The owner didn't even have the decency to ask us if we were okay. No one at this place could even be bothered to check on us after their dog attacked us. I had to go in and wait in line to even ask for a bag of ice for my hand.
They did call to say sorry and comp our food after we had already left, but it was too little too late, in my opinion. The timing of her response and the lack of any empathy in the moment made it very clear that the owner only apologised and comped the food to prevent a lawsuit, not because she actually cared about us or had any remorse about the behaviour of her poorly trained dog.
I'm not a lawyer, but I'm pretty sure we could sue this business for this event, or at the very least file a report with animal control. They're very, very lucky that we're better people than they are.
Pros: the food is awesome and the cafe is cute
Cons: the upper-level staff don't care about you, and their aggressive dog makes it an unsafe place to visit. Someone is going to end up in the hospital and this place is going to get...

I loved the soft music as I sat in one of the many comfy chairs. The cafe offers a variety of healthy snacks, salads, sandwiches, toasts, bagels, and beverages, catering to various dietary preferences, including vegan options.
Service- 5 stars- all the employees I encountered were super friendly. They were constantly cleaning and staying busy. This is counter service however your order is brought out to you.
Food- The menu features items such as the Avocado Smash Toast, topped with extra virgin olive oil, Himalayan salt, cracked pepper, and red pepper flakes, and the Farmhouse Toast, which includes avocado, tangy onion bacon jam, a farm-fresh fried egg, and roasted tomatoes. For those seeking lighter fare, the cafe offers smoothie bowls like the Berry Basic Smoothie Bowl, made with fresh banana, strawberries, blueberries, and acai powder. I had a Bacon, Egg and Cheese bagel and an Iced Caramel Macchiato. Both were excellent!! ...

Winnie's signals a welcome change from a lot of the fast food chains nearby and the demand for healthier habits from residents of WV....
