Read moreTl;dr: food was microwaved and brought to table. Chips were stale. Service was also slow despite us being 1 of 3 tables.
I don't usually leave reviews but I would avoid this resturant. El maguey is good in general but this specific location (atleast on a weekday night) was not up to any resturant standard. As stated above im pretty sure staff microwaved our food before sending it out to us? I ordered a chimichanga which was soggy (its deep fried and covered in cheese, the apperance did look like it had been fried but even the parts not covered in cheese were soft like they had made it way before we arrived and microwaved it). Other evidence includes the refried beans looking dried onto the plate around the edges (again, consistent with reheating on the plate) and the servers telling us that the plastic plates were extremely hot (which... Is what happens when you microwave plastic plates). Despite how they prepared the food it took 30 minutes for them to get it out to us and it was done in two waves (my partner got his food 5-10 minutes before I did).
The chips were also super stale which is not a good look for a mexican resturant.
Staff were over all friendly but unless you're also ordering alcohol I would go to this location considering the subpar quality...

I’ve been to 2 el maguey locations but this is my first time at this one since all my family said this was the best spot. Came in on a Thursday afternoon around 1pm and the place was at full capacity so I knew the food would be good.
I ordered the 3 taco meal (carne asada, chicken, and carnitas) with rice and beans, a margarita, and a quesadilla to go
THE FOOD WAS SOOOOOO GOOD! Specifically the carne asada and carnitas taco! The portions were bigger than any other Mexican restaurant, they did not skimp on the meat! You can literally see the seasoning on your food so you know it’s seasoned well and I love that the salsa verde has good spice to it. The margarita was also good and I burned my mouth on the beans but I kept going haha
I’m really surprised that this place does not have a better rating and IMO it reflects the customer more than it does the restaurant. If you do not like something about your food ITS UP TO YOU to inform your server so that they can fix the situation, otherwise of course you’re going to have a mediocre meal. The servers continually check in and ask you how everything is and whether you like what you have so remember to speak up if something isn’t up to your standards!
I will definitely be back...
