A classic dock-side, seafood shop. While not actually "under a pier" and not really all that close to the sea, this unassuming, under-the-radar joint has some of the best seafood around. We had Softshell crab šŸ¦€ (fried), lobster tails šŸ¦ž , fried breaded butterflied shrimp 🦐, hush puppies šŸ˜‹ , and the deep-fried-battered broccoli 🄦 bites (gotta get the veggies šŸ˜‰ ). All served on paper table cover with paper plates and metal silverware. Classic. Bottled beer and a selection of house cocktails. Menu includes lots of goodies broiled, fried, steamed - we'll be back to try the flounder, tilapia, crabs, shrimp, scallops, chowder, and crab cakes (as long as we didn't stuff ourselves on the fried softshell crabs!). Staff were friendly, knowledgeable and pulling double duty in this one room hidden gem šŸ’Ž. Cash only! šŸ’µ

A hidden seafood gem šŸ’Ž. It's not really under the pier, but the half lit sign, and the outside make it appear like it is. I probably drove past it a million times, but this time I decided to give it a try. It is not the usual atmosphere of a seafood place, but I didn't let that dissuaded me. First I ordered drinks. The drink menu is a bit confusing, but you can just tell them what you want. The Fried Flounder was delicious, and perfectly stuffed with crab cake. The crab cake platter was also delicious. I have tried oysters one time, and i couldn't eat them. These oysters were more than edible (from someone who could never even look at oysters before) lol! Serving sizes are great, I was starving, and still had leftovers. The pricing is fair also. Definitely a great time, and I will be visiting again.

I grew up along the New England coast and for a long time wasn't happy with most of the local seafood places we went to. We found this Jem about 20 years ago & are So Glad We Did! It didn't look like much from the outside, but to me that means if the food's good, the place doesn't have to look fancy ;-) Their hand prepared food is always fresh and I know their fry oil is changed quite frequently, so their fried foods always come out golden! My personal fav is their Old English Fish & Chips, complete with batter drizzles, just like when I was in England! My wife usually gets the crab cake. My buddy typically gets steamed crab legs - at least a pound at a time! We've never had a bad dish & Highly Recommend Under the Pier!! :-) And <Like> their Facebook page to get coupons for their weekly specials.

I don’t write reviews because I read reviews before I go to places so I don’t run into any disappointments ! But I will say I drive 45 minutes from the city to eat here with my husband and daughter. This time I went just with my daughter per her request! We order mozzarella sticks. We enjoyed them! Then I order Sea Tail Delight : it was cold & OK. $25.95 My daughter - she is 9 years old and requested to get some crabs so I order her the Dungeness Crabs ! Full order ! 25.95 she starts off saying mommy I’m so excited to have crabs but minutes later after she’s cracked one open she tells me ā€œmommy these taste different then the last timeā€. I ask her why? she tells me they are very salty . I taste them and to my surprise they are!I tried to wait for my waiter to come back and check on us and the food so we could share the concern. Service is not done once you drop the food off. Not once does she come back to check in with us. Where’s the service ? I made eye contact with her a couple times before I decided to get up and speak to her. I asked the waiter if they cook them in salt and she tells me they do not. HMMMM what do I do ? At this point I see that nothings going to be done. So then I ask why would they be so salty ? She tells me another customer complained about it too but a while back. Ok? Issue was acknowledged but nothing was done. I’ll take my loss 70.00 bucks down the drain. The waitress earned her self a 10% tip. And I am a big tipper ! I didn’t feel bad for the minimal as I received below minimal.

Now I bring home 2 crab legs and when my husband gets home I attempted to have him try them - except he refuses saying they don’t even look good ! He says why didn’t you send these back they aren’t any good ! They look bad. You should have told them you’re not eating get these and would like to order something else.

I should have waited for my husband folks.

Needless to say they lost us...

I have to say that the food here is good, but in my experience, the customer service is TERRIBLE!!! Every time I go to this establishment I get into an argument with a member of the staff. I expressed to them that I felt that as a convenience to the customer, they may want to start accepting credit/debit cards and the owner’s response was ā€œI have been here for over 40 years and it hasn’t stopped anyone from comingā€. I thought to myself ā€œWow, so you don’t even value a customer’s business enough to consider making their experience more convenientā€. Then last night I went ordered 2 fried shrimp platters, 2 crab cakes and a dozen steamed cherry stone clams. I was given one large cocktail sauce and one small one as well as a large and small tartar sauce. I asked for another cocktail sauce for the other fried shrimp platter and was asked to pay an additional 50 cent. Now, it wasn’t about the money, but after I just spent 40$ on my food, why was it necessary to argue with me over 50 cents?!? Especially when I have 2 shrimp platters!!! Long story short, I paid the 50 cent and went on my way, but I want them to know that they have lost a long time, well paying customer because they are petty and unprofessional. In addition they have a ā€œget with it or get lostā€ attitude that I don’t appreciate. I am particular about how/where I spend my money and I REFUSE to spend it somewhere that my business is not appreciated. They should really evaluate how they treat their customers and how you speak to them. A little courtesy...

This is an old school, family run seafood joint. Like you might find near the beach; except there's no beach.

There's a good selection of items in the menu, and the prices are what you would expect to find. Seafood isn't cheap.

But it could be better. We had various dishes with fried items (I know, broiled is healthier...). The clam strips, shrimp, and scallops all tended toward overcooked. Still fine to eat, but darker and tougher than you'd probably want. The exception was the fish, which was similar in color but seemed to be fine. We really did like the New England clam chowder, though. That was probably the best item, though the "sea chip" potatoes and coleslaw served as sides were close seconds.

We placed a pickup order, and I was happy to see that the people there understand what's needed for such: the foil covered platters were vented to prevent additional steaming. Our order came with no cocktail or tartar sauce, though, which is a big mistake.

I had to wait a while for my food, since I was told 35 minutes and it took close to 20 minutes more than that. I think there was confusion over the time because the cooks said I arrived early when I showed up exactly 35 minutes after my order was placed over the phone.

If you choose to dine in, be prepared for something exceedingly "low key." This isn't a visually nice place, at all. It's meant to churn out seafood. The stacks of boxes holding soda syrups near the counter and drink fridge...
