Part 2] I couldn’t wait longer so I went back today to try something else. 🤭 I sat down, got my chips and salsa and the menu. I knew what I wanted and asked an employee about the Birria and he suggested it so I ordered it. While I waited, I munched on the yummy chips and salsa. The salsa was so good, not hot but solid flavor. The Birria didn’t take long to arrive and boy. I was mesmerized. The consomé looked perfect. There was so much food that I immediately knew I wasn’t gonna finish it all - BUT I DID. The tacos at least. The rice 10/10 THATS HOW ALL RICE AT MEXICAN RESTAURANTS SHOULD TASTE. It was soft and had corn, green beans and maybe peas I can’t remember but come on, perfect. The beans were yumm, you know just beans and waaaay better than other places. NOW TO THE BIRRIA: they are pretty good sized tacos, super cheesy that I’d take a bite and the cheese would just keep going! The meat on point of course, but when I dipped it in the consomé my mouth decided to have a party and all the flavors were just SO YUMM. That’s a perfect birria taco. I literally kept dipping my chips in the consomé because I just wanted to keep eating it but ran out of the tacos! Ok that’s all. 10/10 customer service. 10/10 food.

Part 1] I saw that this new restaurant opened on Main Street BA and had been eyeing it since yesterday. I decided to go today after looking at their menu and seeing that they have frijoles charros. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted and was able to place my to go order. Marcos is the employee who helped me and he was just awesome. I asked about the charro beans and the enchiladas I ended up getting. He helped me pick a sauce for them because I’m very indecisive and he was super patient and so friendly! I loved the environment, they had Spanish music (which make or break dining in since I am Mexican and I want Spanish music but I was in a hurry today so I had to skip 🫶) Now to the food: the frijoles charros? Yeah… they are SO perfect. So so good that I’m dreading finishing them. They taste just as my family makes them (they’re all from Mexico). 10/10 can’t wait to have again. *For those who don’t know what they are: “Frijoles charros are usually pinto beans stewed with onion, garlic, and bacon. Some include chili peppers, tomatoes, cilantro, ham, sausage, pork and chorizo” The agua de melon (cantaloupe) was so fresh, so sweet and so yumm! I don’t usually get this agua fresca but I said why not after someone suggested it. 🍈 The enchiladas were so good, the ground beef was seasoned perfectly that it tasted good by itself. The queso and the red sauce were just perfect. I got the steamed veggies on the side “trying to be healthy” but I can’t wait to try their rice and beans! The chips? Perfectly salted. These taste like the chips I’d eat as a kid when I’d go out to a restaurant in El Paso with my mom, grandma and aunt. So good!! Anyways, this was my experience and I can’t wait to go again 😄 didn’t get to take a good picture of the enchiladas before I...

I wondered if the name of the restaurant was indicative of the style of Mexican cuisine? Is this Mayan style served here?

It would take a very astute and well-trained culinary historian to sort out the subtle differences between modern Mayan or Aztecan inspired Mexican food. Yeah, I know the Spaniards had their spoon in the pot too. But of the two native cultures, from what I have read, I believe the Aztecans had the greater influence on the most common Mexican dishes we enjoy today. But, that’s just my guess and who really cares. It is all authentic Mexican food. Well, except for “Cali Style”.

I was reluctant to try Maya. The pictures of the food looked as bland as a bowl of oat meal. The food at Maya is a very mildly spiced version of authentic Mexican food. If you are looking for TexMex or OkieMex heat, spice and chili powder you will be disappointed. They do have a salsa picante that will light you up though. It was the perfect additive that made Maya’s good food, great food.

My wife had the Double Quesadilla and I had the Burrito Rey. The Quesadillas (2) were loaded with cheese and delicious steak. The steak slices were tender with a hint of char from an open flame grill. Very good, better with salsa picante. In the middle of the plate a little salad of pico de gallo, guacamole and lettuce. Ok, now, the Burrito Rey, the King! A leviathan of the burrito family. The biggest burrito in Tulsa. Filled with everything the restaurant has. Two plates of food rolled up in a large tortilla and painted with salsa to look like the Mexican flag. Mild Salsa Verde, Queso, and a Salsa Roja. Top it with some of that Salsa Picante and it’s a meal. I hurt when I left the restaurant. (Check the pictures) Bigger and better than any burrito that you will get at the “Fresh Mex” place plus you get chips salsa and service. And the food is served HOT on a real plate!

Maya is nicely decorated inside with art and scenes of the Mayan culture. No bright primary colors, sombreros, donkeys or cactus. Roomy, the restaurant can handle a crowd. Maya has lunch specials. Daily specials are listed on the sandwich board sign out front or ask your server.

Great Lunch, excellent service from Marisela.

I am giving 1 star only because I cannot do ZERO! We ordered 2 of the same item from their menu and only received 1. I called the store back and spoke to Daniel, the "manager" and he blamed it on his new hire and then accused me of being racist when I never NEVER mentioned a thing about either of our race. He has no idea what nationality I am and I have no idea what his is, yet he chooses to go this route. I will never order from this restaurant again and I really hope anyone who reads this review will refuse to give them your money either. He is responsible for everything that goes out of his store and he couldn't even take responsibility for the mistakes. I am so sick of poor customer service, missing items and just crap attitudes from people who are supposed to be in management. The answer is for me to call door dash back, place another order, pay more delivery fees and tips and give them more of my money. NO THANK YOU!! Maya, whoever owns this restaurant, you may want to think about getting new staff, because the current staff you have is going to cost you...

My hubby and I were looking for somewhere new to eat in Broken Arrow…. Our search landed on Maya Mexican Eatery. Guess it’s been here 8 or 9 months! Wow! Well, so glad we found it! Chips and Salsa - really good! I had the Birria Tacos (in the quesadilla section) OMG! DELISH! Beans and rice were really good. Hubby had the Hawaiian Quesadillas. He said they were really fresh. The guacamole was really tasty! Serving size was so generous for both meals we ended up taking leftovers home. Our serve ,Yarixa, was so helpful and attentive). You need to try this place… we will definitely be back!
