My Wife and I had a terrible experience caused by our server.

the situation:

My wife and I completed our walk around the rose district and decided to come here to eat. Once we sat down, we ordered our drinks. The server asked for our IDs. The server reviewed my ID and gave it back. When the server checked my wife's ID; she proceeded to inform that she needed a second opinion from her manager. After a few moments, she asked my wife for her birthday. My wife confirmed her birthday with the server. The server informs us that my wife did not look like the same person on her ID. My wife asked, "is it because I have braids?" The server's responded with a condescending attitude "you don't look like the person on the ID. You don't look like you were born in 1992. you could be using your family members' or cousins' ID. She then proceeds to inch her head closer to my wife's personal space and also responds, "it is my job to check IDs. If I do not, I can lose my license and lose my job. Do you understand?" at this moment, we canceled our order and left the establishment. We took a few moments to reflect on the situation.

After taking time to reflect on the situation, we decided to go back to speak to the manager. Once we spoke to the manager, we informed him how the situation took place.

The manager asked to review my wife's ID and confirmed my wife looked like the person on her ID. We did inform him that my wife recently added braids to her hair. My wife informed the manager that African Americans have different hair types. I informed him the issue was how the server responded with her condescending tone and felt like she was placing fault back to my wife because she felt my wife was not the same person on her ID. The manager informed us that the server is newer and will retrain her. He apologized and offered to seat us with another server. We declined. We only wanted to voice our concern. Then proceeded to leave.

I did not appreciate the server's condescending tone and disrespect towards my wife. I have served for over 10 years and understand the importance of checking IDs to anyone and everyone who looks younger than 21.

Had the server politely explained the situation in a respectful tone, for example, "I had to get a 2nd opinion and asked my manager for a follow up with you. I don't want to make a mistake I hope you understand." Instead of how she actually responded, we would have understood and continued with our night there.

It is a shame that this server ruined my wife's first time at your establishment. we will not be...

I’m from out of town and today was the first time I’ve ever eaten here. I’m giving 1 star for Service because of the experience I had today. You can see from the picture that the kids menu states each meal includes a “kid-sized drink” so I didn’t think anything of it when one child ordered a Root Beer and it arrived in the same size cup as the Coke the other child ordered. I was shocked when the bill arrived and there was a $3 charge for the root beer in addition to the $5 charge for the kids meal! The kids meal menu doesn’t indicate what sodas are or are not included in the price of the kids meal, nor does it state there’s an additional charge for a particular drink. Before ordering I looked at both the regular menu and the drink menu for non-alcoholic selections and none were listed. There are multiple places on the regular menu that show up-charges for substitutions and add-ons, so why would soda up-charges not be included somewhere as well? When the server came back to get my credit card I pointed out the fact that I was charged for the Root Beer and that she never mentioned there would be a charge, greater than 50% of the cost of the meal that was to include a drink, and that it wasn’t stated anywhere. She said they charge for that drink because it comes in a bottle, to which I also pointed out that ours came in a cup the exact same as the other kids meal drink. She said she’d ask the manager if the charge could be taken off, and returned stating the manager said that it couldn’t. I again expressed my disappointment especially in the lack of information given to patrons and recommended that she as a server should make it a point to inform the person ordering in the future. I wish I would have asked to speak to the manager directly or that she would’ve taken it upon herself to speak to me, regretfully that did not happen. I also think this information should be included on the menus. Hiding it and not informing the orderer is a shady way of doing business. The food was good, but this part of the service left a bad taste...

My wife and I visited on a Sunday around 4pm or so. It wasn't very busy inside but they were sort of busy on the patio. We opted to sit inside. We both noticed it was pretty noisy, mostly the tv, so if you are looking for a quiet place to eat I would avoid Main Street Tavern. Shortly after picking a table our waitress came over a few minutes later and got our drink order. We chose our entrees and placed the order shortly after getting our drinks.

I ordered the ribeye, substituted the mash potatoes for a dinner salad, and their seasonal vegetables. My wife got the herb crusted Mahi Mahi , risotto, and seasonal vegetables. The waitress gave the option to get my salad before or with the meal, I opted to get it before. Not long after ordering I had my salad. The salad itself was good sized and fresh.

We felt the main entrées took a bit come out, especially since it didn't appear to be too busy, but not long enough to Starr questioning if there was a problem. Literally a few minutes later after commenting to one and another our food arrived. Our plates were visually pleasing to the eyes, but a few things feel short. My steak was ordered medium rare but more on the medium side. If had much more done I would've requested then to cook another. The flavor was good but the steak wasn't as tender as I was hoping for. The green beans were good.

My wife's Mahi Mahi tasted great and it was a generous portion. Unfortunately, the risotto was overcooked and the texture was mush. We requested a different side since the risotto wasn't cooked properly. She opted for the cheese grits, which were much much better.

Overall, the meal was decent but nothing very special about it that would bring us back. According to Google maps my last visit was 7 years ago and I jokingly said to my wife that it'll likely be another 7 years...

08/20/25 Second visit We had a group of 12 for a business lunch, and Main Street Tavern was a great choice—spacious, comfortable, and not too noisy. Our server Rebel was fantastic! She handled our large group by herself with ease—friendly, attentive, and kept everything running smoothly. Appetizers were a mix—the wings looked great but lacked crispness, while the Mozzarella Sticks were the surprise standout. My Chicken Club was excellent thanks to the toasted wheat berry bread, though the side salad was a letdown. Overall, a solid spot for lunch or after-work drinks on the patio. Ask for Rebel if you can—she really made the experience! A recommended place for lunch and it was very good! We started with the Tavern Chips which was a solid choice and I would definitely recommend them. As much as I wanted a burger that is what was on tap for my dinner. I opted to the Ahi Tuna Sandwich with seasonal veggies. This was a very good option and I’m glad I chose that sandwich. If you like seafood food or lover of tuna I would recommend giving this a try! My dining parters chose burgers cooked medium - unfortunately they came closer to being well done. Due to time constraints they didn’t say anything. Even though it was overcooked they thought it was pretty good. The menu options looked really good so I would definitely recommend giving this place a try.
