I have lost count of the number of times I've eaten at this restaurant. It has been a great place to eat until tonight. When my girlfriend and I went to El Toro tonight, we both ordered nachos with chicken and steak like we always do. There isn't an option on the menu for both chicken and steak, so they have always rung it up as either steak nachos or as chicken nachos. They both cost $8.99 so that's what they have always charged us for equal portions of chicken and steak. For some reason, tonight they decided to charge us for two orders of chicken nachos and two extra orders of steak. I have never been charged extra for having them do equal portions of chicken and steak, but tonight they charged me an additional $5.98 for two extra orders of steak that I have never been charged for in the past. After getting our check, I asked my server about this additional charge. He wasn't sure so he got the owner of the Brownsburg El Toro to come out and speak with me about it. It seemed like a mistake considering I had never been charged extra for both steak and chicken so I was confident that the owner would remove this charge. Unfortunately, this did not happen, as the owner told me that the additional charge for the two orders of steak was correct. I explained to her that this was never something I had been charged for in the past, but she said they always charged more for this. I then pulled up my banking app to show her the total cost of my most recent transaction, which was for the same thing I ordered tonight. The cost of my identical order placed on August 14, 2024, was $19.60 total after tax, but tonight the owner told me it was correct to charge me a total of $26.12 total after tax for the same exact same order. After further discussing this issue, the owner still wouldn’t budge and refused to take off the extra charge. My issue is that if this extra charge is going to be the new normal at this restaurant then the menu needs to say there is an extra charge or my waiter should have told us when we ordered that there is an extra charge to do nachos with both steak and chicken. It really is disappointing that the owner refused to work with one of their frequent customers, but if that’s how she wants to be then I will happily take my business to one of the many other Mexican restaurants...
Read moreWe got the Friday special of steak fajitas. They were terribly salty and the steak meat was going bad. I've heard that restaurants put up specials to get rid of food that is about to spoil. I never believed it until now. We all felt sick because they tried to cover up the bad meat taste with TONS of salt. It wasn't just salty, it was inedible like they'd dumped a shaker of salt on the food. Plus there was very little meat, maybe 1 1/2 oz, the rest of the plate was onions and bell pepper. The meat was terribly dry and you couldn't swallow it and it left a bad taste in your mouth after you got past the salt, like it was rotten. We had them take it back and declined their offers of replacement meals because we didn't want anything else out of that kitchen. We couldn't wait to go somewhere else and eat something healthy. We waited 10-15 minutes for our check for our drinks and were surprised that we were all charged for sides of rice that we didn't even eat. The waitress said she took the dinners off our check like she was doing us a favor. It took the manager 15 minutes to come when we complained about the rice charges. She had never come by when we sent the rotten food back. The manager was rude and confrontational and finally stomped off. The waitress came by and said we didn't have to pay for our drinks and we could leave. She had the audacity to ask for a tip and stood there expectantly as we got out our wallets. We will never go back there. We weren't feeling well the rest of the night. It was so bad that my family and friends in my party are considering calling the state...
Read moreLet me begin by saying that I love mexican food. As an "accidental" Google Guide, Google notified me that my reviews rank in the top 10% of mexican restaurant reviewers. I'm not saying this to boast, but to set the stage for my review. This was not my first el rodeo, so to speak (lol).
None of us had been to El Toro previously, so I ordered their signature dish, the "El Toro Burrito". Typically, mexican restaurants put their name on a selection that they can ensure is consistently delicious, but the El Toro Burrito was one of the most disappointing dishes I have ever had at a mexican restaurant.
After the first two bites and NOT finding a burrito under the shredded lettuce, I scraped the lettuce to the side and found their pathetic version of a burrito which looked nothing like the menu description. It was about 1/2" thick and appeared to have been microwaved. The ground beef tasted like it had been around for awhile. The large amount of lettuce, I imagine, was intended to hide this "big burrito".
I will say that a couple of the others in our group commented that their food was good. So...
