Let me ask you this.... Do you remember that good ol' summer time during a weekend at that family's member house in a rural area where their specialty was either cookouts or seafood, and if it was the latter, you know that you were in for a treat if they were cooking seafood, especially seafood soup or "caldo de mariscos"!
Well, this place brought me that memory right after I tasted those tostaditas with the homemade salsa! It brought me back those memories of my childhood at my aunt's house during a Sunday afternoon. The only weird thing I noticed when entering was something of a sewage smell but then it went away and the smell of seafood started to fill up the air right after.
To continue the food story, after that snack, the little bowl of soup of consomme came out and to my surprise, it was seafood! And another memory came out! I enjoyed that little bowl with a mixture of fish, squid, crab, as well as other spices, the memory of me as a kid trying out seafood soup for the first time came out, it was delicious! Then the entree came out, my deviled shrimp..... The smell was glorious, that smell of Chipotle and tomato sauce, the sweet aroma of cooked shrimp and the perfectly seasoned rice on the side, it was as if my own mother was cooking!
All in all, Captain's Bob is what they really say about the place, the best seafood in town! I'll be...
Read moreWhat a sad experience I had today. I ordered the crab stuff avacados. The price was a bit high but hey you only live once. Took the order back to the hotel and started to eat.
The stuffing was well put together and you could tell there was detail placed in dicing the celery... honestly I was impressed which is the only reason I am giving them 2 stars instead of 1. The stuffing also had an odd odor....not spoiled but not fresh.
The crab stuffing lacked any flavor at all... and I mean zero flavor. I poured both salsas on it....added salt and went down to the hotel lobby to get some more salt and pepper. Once I started to really dig in I had to fish out shell and hard bits from almost every bite. After a piece of shell or whatever was hard stuck into my gum I stopped. It might not have been shell and could of the been the cartilage who know.... but it was just miserable.
So if you break down the total cost I might have eaten 4 bucks worth of this 20 dollar dish and the rest is in the trash. Im sure they have some great other foods as they have stood the test of time but sadly I will not dare order their stuffed...
Read moreI will not be coming here again for these 9 reasons: I'm from NY, and the food was expensive by NY standards. For Brownsville standards, it's absolutely ludicrous. Some prices were different in English and Spanish menus. (See "captain's combo" on attached photos.) Why? Waitress only spoke Spanish. Waitress got my order (calamar ranchero) wrong, brought shrimp (camaron ranchero) instead. Waitress then spent a full 30 seconds insisting that it was in fact squid. Fixed order was brought out in 3 MINUTES which suggests that yes, it was DEFINITELY frozen. Food was okay. Ranchero sauce/stew was very spicy. Way spicier here than at any other place I've been in Brownsville, and I've been living here almost 6 years now. Annoying pop music playing over speakers the entire time. Sign on the door says "online menu" but there isn't one. (I didn't personally check this but I sent the link to my brother since we were bringing food for him and he said it...
