Well our second visit did not disappoint! I absolutely prefer the New York style pizza they have. We enjoyed the “it has da meats” pizza and a pepperoni calzone. As Dave Portnoy would exclaim, the pizza has a good undercarriage. Crispy but with a little bit of flimsiness to it. The ingredients all meshed well to make a great slice of pizza! The calzone was good but we probably would’ve done well to let it cool down quite a bit. It was fresh out of the oven and burned my wife’s tongue! Haha! The seasoning on top got a little charred but altogether it was still very tasty. We will definitely go back and dare I say it could be my new favorite pizza place?? We’ll see! Please continue reading for my first initial impressions and thoughts on their Detroit style deep dish pizza. Pics are correlated to this visit and not the first.
My review is based upon our first visit and experience. We will certainly be trying their pizza again so I’m sure I will update my review to a more accurate representation of what I think of their restaurant.
Firstly, the staff is extremely friendly and cordial. Even though they were clearly busy, I was greeted promptly and respectfully. I did have to wait longer than expected with a phone order. I arrived when they said it would be ready but I still had to wait about an extra 15 minutes. Not the end of the world at all obviously, and again they were definitely busy.
When my wife called in to place the order she was given a recommendation to do a Detroit style pizza to better feed 3 people. I was unaware of this and when I checked the pizza while leaving I was shocked to find a rectangular pizza. That’s foreign to me and it caught me very off guard! lol! I gave it the benefit of the doubt though. Though I can definitely agree it was plenty to feed 3 people (a preteen black hole of a boy, my pregnant wife and myself), I personally did not care for that style of pizza. Not just the shape and texture, I was not impressed with the overall flavor either. It may be some people’s thing though which is fine… weird, but fine. However, I would not personally order it again. We will go more traditional with our next order. Where henceforth I will update this review.
Pricing seems par for the course for non-chain restaurant pizza. I would definitely pick Different Dough over just about any other...
Read moreToday was the first time I ever visited a restaurant on its first day of business, so I kind of feel like one of the hipster kids who know about a place before it's cool. 😆 It is such a nice change of pace to have a pizza option that isn't part of a chain. The owners were incredibly nice, and I enjoyed chatting with them as I awaited my food. They aim to differentiate themselves from their corporate competition by emphasizing quality ingredients, and after eating my first few slices of their product, I can say they have already done so successfully, in my opinion.
I took my order, one cheese pizza and one pepperoni, to go, and the smell that filled my vehicle was enough to let me know I was in for a treat. There was a smokiness to the scent that I figured was from the pepperoni pie, and upon first bite, my assumption was validated. The pepperoni is old world style, which has a deeper flavor than the run of the mill variety used by the chains. Because that type cups as it bakes, the edges tend to crisp, which adds another wonderful flavor element.
As for the cheese pizza, its flavor accomplished something I've never had from one - the flavors of the assorted cheeses with which they top their pie were distinguishable instead of running together as is so often the case with the average pie. When they top the pizza with parm, they don't break out a can. They use an honest to goodness real block of Parmigiano Reggiano. Trust me, if you've only ever had canned parm, it doesn't hold a candle to the authentic version. For pizza of this caliber I would have expected the cost to be higher than it was, but it is a real value for its price point! I officially have a new favorite pizza place in Arkansas! I wish the owners all the success in the world! (Forgive the appearance of their pizzas in my photos. They had been sliding...
Read moreFirst off FANTASTIC PIZZA!!! This place is worth it. Typically I'm a simple man when it comes to pizza. If the service is good and the food hot, I'm happy. All of that was before my family found this place. It was recommended by a friend as the one place in Arkansas that has a true upper east coast quality crust. (Where he is from) Add that recommendation with the fact they make fresh calzones, which are my wife's favorite, (and are hard to find) we had to check it out. Oh My Goodness! This place is so fresh they sell out of dough daily as they only make enough for the day's service. Wait too late and you are out of luck. I LOVE THAT! They use simple, fresh, and real ingredients that you can watch them put on your pizza should you choose. This dough is the best, it is yeasty, chewy, firm, soft textured with good chew, crunchy, flavorful, and all at the same time! It is also very reasonable as far as pricing. Is it more than the chains, sure. Is it worth the 15-25% more you will pay... Absolutely! For our family we actually only spend about $5 more (family of 3) because we don't need all of the filler, just good pizza. Oh did I mention, it's very hot (temp wise) which is a requirement of mine, and it travels extremely...
